Hi, guys
This is my first time posting a thread in this pre-DO forum. And I would like to get some opinions or suggestions from you guys in terms of my situation. 🙂

some info about myself
- low MCAT score (19; will take it one more time next January)
- just finish my master in counseling (3.7)
- college GPA (~3.2); science (~3.1)

My question is actually that i'm planning not to put my low MCAT score on my primary app so that the schools won't get a bad impression of me before getting the new score. However, i believe that when AAMC sends the score, they would also disclose my previous score. .....so... i'm in a dilemma now....On the one hand, I don't want them to just reject me based on my old score, but on the other, I don't like to be called a liar as well.... So...what can i do? Please any advice!!! Thanks😕

I'm assuming that you will be applying for interviews for the following cycle (ie not this current one...as a Jan. MCAT is likely way too late for that..) Anyway, wait to see how you do on it this time and if you can pull off mid-20's or so, you might be in decent shape to apply this summer for the next cycle.

I really don't think you can or should hide your previous score. It will come up in interviews, so make sure to explain the low score. But if you get a new, higher one, it definitely serves as a nice contrast.

hm.....actually....i'm applying for this cycle~
So the majority of the schools that I am applying to all have their deadlines in March or later~ 😛

And i know i'm crazy and maybe wasting money too....🙂

This was covered recently in another thread, but since you're new you probably didn't read it. Be careful with which schools you are going to apply trying to use the January MCAT. Some schools may not accept anything past August 2006 for this cycle. And face it, even if they do you will be in a poor position as far as rolling admissions goes (gets harder to get in later in cycle = higher stats needed). A 19 probably won't do it so you will need a better score, but hey you never know. If you have the money why not? If you don't get accepted this cycle, make sure you improve your application by next year. Almost all schools ask specifically what you have done to improve your application as a reapplicant and why they should admit you.

Thanks all of you!
I have finally submit my app and yes i did put my "disgusting" mcat score in there. Now, i guess i can only pray that the schools would only see the positive side of me....

All in all, thanks everyone for your kind advices and wish you guys all the best luck!!
🙂

PassingDays: hey, I ain't rich~ but i do like to take my chances here 'cause i just couldn't wait for another year (i'm old; going to turn 28 pretty soon😱 ...) anyway, gotta go find some dish washing job now to raise some money~

What's the reason for the low score? you would have to score like a 30 to give you a competitive edge that late in the cycle.

I kind of disagree w/ other people's advice as well. I wouldn't be applying for this cycle w/ a 19 and the hope of a January MCAT (which I'm sure you'll do great on), since January is sooo late. Rolling admissions will almost certainly kill you.

Oh well, what's done is done. Best of luck.

I feel ya'. Can't blame a guy for taking a chance (the whole can't win the lottery if you don't buy a ticket thing), but do be aware that schools will ask about previous application stuff if you don't make it this time around. Best of luck!

I should probably join you in the kitchen to raise some extra money to pay for all this school!

With the computer based test that you will be taking you shouldn't have to wait the usual 2 months for your score. I saw a MCAT ad that was boasting a 30 day turn around. Yes, you will be late in the cycle....but hey it only money....😀

I don't think you can hide the older scores either. If you do a lot better with retake, your old score won't hurt you.
