I need some advice.

My freshmen year in college was a mess due to some family problems. Grades were not my first priority. Anyway, I started just taking General Chemistry 1 that year without knowledge that I would be pre-med in the future. Bombed the course: C-. I decided not to take General Chemistry 2 the next semester because I knew it would be a disaster.

So here I am going into my junior year and my grades are very good since the freshmen year blow up. I'm taking Biology next semester and I plan on Physics and Orgo my senior year. But I still need General Chemistry 2 to complete the pre-reqs.

Should I retake General Chem 1 over the summer and also take the second part over the summer? Or should I just complete General Chemistry 2 in the spring semester and do really well? I dont want that C- to be my downfall, so I thought it might be a good idea to retake over the summer.

Don't be too concerned about the C in Gen Chem I, instead focus on doing well from here on out. Make sure that you get an A in Chem II and you'll be fine.

if you had trouble with gen chem I because of your attitudes, then just kick a$$ on chem II, but if you were genuinely struggling with it, then make sure you have at least some kind of refresher, because honestly gen chem I is very basic compared to the second part. it sounds like your situation may be the former, in which case just focus and stay on top of it all...it is definitely doable.

good luck

I think it also depends on if a C- is passing at your school, if it's not, then I would say you have to retake it, otherwise as long as you get a high score In chemistry II, you probably don't need to retake it.

I would retake Chem I. However, I don't suggest that because I think you need to make up for the grade. Much of Chem II is based on Chem I and if you don't have the foundations down it will be hard to pull an A in Chem II. It is one of those things where the topics relate just enough to cause problems potentially. If you think you have the material down and are comfortable taking Chem II without retaking I then by all means do so.

Best of Luck.

Don't retake chem 1 if you think you already know the material. If you really had difficult circumstances that affected your chem 1 grade, you are allowed to explain them on your AMCAS application.

If you do retake it, you should not take 1 and 2 concurrently, because that's clearly just for the grade and not self-improvement.
