Yesterday I was yelled at and humiliated in front of a customer by the RXM because i ordered a brand name drug for two patients . I I was threatened to be written up . Store manager was paged to the pharmacy. I explained to the store manager what happened, and decided to have a small talk with rxm. Store manager told him that that is the proper way to talk to me and he would send an email to the rx supervisor. I already emailed the supervisor. Rx supervisor said he will look into the matter .

Right now, i feel lost and humiliated. I have never been yelled at, and humiliated before.
Any advice will be appreciated

Don't worry about it. It's small potatoes. Just make sure you the prescriptions are filled correctly and give the best counseling possible. Getting yelled by a customer or manager or even written up doesn't matter in the big scheme. What you don't want is a state board action or civil litigation. That is what matters. Let the small-penis men have their psychodrama.

I don't understand why you were yelled at. Because you ordered meds for patients? I'm pretty sure that's what we're supposed to do.

Because i ordered it from cardinal. He said i should have called others stores to check if the have the drugs in stock.

That is a harsh punishment for a small mistake. Yikes, imagine what they woul do if you actually did something that harmed someone.

I was humiliated by some pharmacists at my internship. I regret not being more assertive or quitting. Old bitchy women were horrible to work with. Sounds line you are doing the right thing. Try not to worry about it too much in your off time

F that. Your #1 job is customer service (and not killing people and stuff). I call stores to find meds for people if it makes for better service (i.e. patient can't wait for delivery of med). I don't do it to save a corporation a few dollars. If my patient wants me to dispense the med, I order it. Making people happy makes more money in the long run.

This is not a small mistske because every store ordered drugs from cardinal to arrive the next day. To yell a me and threaten to write me up does not make sense.

You need to be aware of the policies for your pharmacy. Although yelling at you was the wrong way to go about it, you need to be responsible.

This was not a personal attack, although you may take it that way because of the abrasive method. You did something wrong, and this is a chance to learn from it. Admit your mistake, but maybe help the RXM out a bit and let them know they could be more constructive with their feedback.

It's an opportunity for both of you.

This has also happened to me. I just started working as a RPH. The Rx was written for twice weekly when it should be once weekly. I had to verify the RX. The patient was pissed and so was the doctor. She yelled, "It's TWICE a week..can you read!?!" I documented it and dispensed it. The patient later complained to the DM and I got dinged. A few weeks later, I learned that he had a severe reaction to the medication.

Obviously, I shouldn't have dispensed it. That's what I hate about retail. People just don't appreciate what we do. I cant wait to get out of here

Are you sure you understood what i wrote? There is no policy that says do not order drugs from cardinal. What did i do wrong? Please tell me. It was a drug that i ordered from cardinal, that is where we always order drug.

lol...clearly the RXM shouldn't be an RXM/ has other issues ongoing.

Don't worry about it, just watch your step.

you didn't do anything wrong, but the RXM gets a lot of **** when things like this are ordered from cardinal.

It was a mistake but he shouldn't have yelled at you. We are all professionals here.

Are you a new grad? I have seen DMs treat their new grads pretty badly

I should also note there has been issue before with the RXM. He once refused to order a brand name medication for a patient that has been on it for years. The patient was without their medication for several days. Patient got mad and complained. I was off for a week at the time. It was when i came that i decided to order the medication for the patient. I would think he would learn from experience.I guess it is because he is new. I told him as a rph i do what i think is best for my patients.
I already sent an email to the rx supervisor about the recent incident.
So if the rx supervisor said i did something wrong for ordering a brand name drug from cardinal, I would definitely turn my two week notice.

no, i am not a new graduate. please explain, how was it a mistake.

So you knew the RXM didn't want to order the med (for a reason you are not giving us) but you went behind their back and ordered it. And you don't think you did anything wrong. When confronted you emailed the DM. Can I please be your partner?

I see what you mean. Your pharmacy needed a medication so you went and ordered it from the vendor. Pharmacy inventory management is where many chains are trying to trim their overall costs and they are not nice/respectful about it. From my experience as a tech: Look at the cost of the item you are ordering and the patient you are ordering for. Example: high dollar Rx +demanding patient that might not come back or has frequent transfer in/out in profile= politely explain that you don't have the drug in stock but can call other stores that might have it for them to see if they have it or place an order and it will be ready in a day or two-->let tech do the calling. another example: Generic/average brand that everyone has except your newly opened location+ new/average customer= borrow from other stores and don't order from warehouse yet( your RXM will like you.downside: the other stores might flat out start to lie to you if you don't shape up soon. another example:the patient is a repeat customer and is likely to stay in your pharmacy then order whatever the hell they want because those are worth keeping.
I think it is in your best interest to know how exactly your RXM wants the inventory to be managed. He/she might not be great to work with but look on the good side: Surplus is heading our way and he/she might not last long if they keep up their attitude because many RXM can actually be professional and good at what they do. Maybe!
Good luck🙂

Yes i ordered a drug for a patient. I did not order anything behind rxm back. That is what i do. I am pharmacist, when patient comes, and their medications are not ready? what do i tell them? yes you can be my partner, and i would still order a brand name eye drug for which insurance pays for a patient.

I see your point. Every store tries not to order generic from vendor. But it is ok to order brand name from cardinal. The patient came to pick up the medications, and we did not have it in stock. It was for Restasis (brand name). Patient said she was supposed to start it as soon as possible. that is why i ordered the meds If this is wrong, i take full responsibily. If this is a ground for yelling at me, i take responsibily. Yes i emailed the rx supersivor, and he will let me know what he thinks.

Stand up for yourself and don't get humiliated. No one has the right to step down on you and treat you like poop. I suggest don't quit and write a letter stating the situation. People need to learn PROFESSIONALISM. It doesn't hurt to be nice and constructive if someone makes a minor mistake. Treat people the way you want to be treated. LOL! Bad karma for that guy.

It's better to be the bigger person and at least give him some respect. Did you yell at him as well? How'd you react?

Why have you not had Restasis in stock for over a week? 😕

Your RXM shouldn't yell at you but your story is weird.

I did not yell back. I was trying to explain thim why i ordered the medications.and i have good reasons. He was angry, yelling, and paged store mananger. I explained to the store manager and when i was talking, he kept interrupting me. The manager called him to the office for about 40 minutes. It Seemed that the manager gave him a little lecture on how to talk to people. He had to leave a little late .. when he said he was going to write me up, i said ok go ahead and write me up. The store manager told him that he can't just write people up like that.

so the store manager said he was not supposed to talk to me like that. Now iam waiting for the rx supervisor. one of the patients for whomw i ordered the eye dropps was really complaining about it, and her eyes were really swollen

you missunderstood what i wrote. Read my first post. in the post you are referring, i was talking about an other incident. It was brand name Xanax 2, which he refused to order. Since i know that patient well, and she has been on xanax , i decided to order it . That patient complained about him.

This is how you handle the situation.

Keep quiet and directly to his superior.

hmmmm......

so do u guys order all of your medication through cardinal? or do you guys also have a warehouse delivery that comes couple times a week?

maybe your manager was upset because you could have waited until the warehouse delivery came instead of ordering it for a higher price from cardinal?

or maybe he's just a dick

Ah, gotcha. Sorry for my misunderstanding. Your RXM really does sound like a jerk. I hope it works out for you.

No, we don't order every thing from cardinal. The patients could not wait for the next delivery, which is going to be on Saturday.

At least I like what you did. I will always put my patient first because that's what the health profession is all about. Good luck to you!

Branded drugs cost the same from Cardinal and CRW. I'm not sure why RXM had a hissy fit. Even if it's for a generic and no surrounding store has it, I tell my folks to order it (for an OOS) . I'm A not going to drive 20 miles to another store on the other side of town so I can save the company a few bucks. Interstore within reason. PFL just needs to come on next CRW order. Communication with customers is key.

Looks like your rxm needs a lesson in communication.

^This.

I am much older than most of you guys. If I were yelled at like that, you can be sure the guy who did the yelling will regret it. It may not happen to him right away, but by God he'll pay for it.

Even if someone made a mistake it is never appropriate to yell at someone publicly. It's unprofessional and honestly if I was a patient/customer witnessing this I would leave since not only is it uncomfortable to witness but I wouldn't want to spend my money somewhere where the managers were verbally abusive towards others. When there is an issue the way to correct things is not to yell in public. That's how children or people with anger issues act.

You are absolutely right, and you are among a few that really understood my post. The cost for Restasis is the same from cardinal and warehouse( about 141dollars per unit of 30). It seems that he did not know that . I am hoping that he will learn a lesson. Both patients have already picked up their meds. So i still dont know why he was upset and was yelling.

First, it's always cheaper to get it from the warehouse. Second it's never appropriate to yell at a colleague. Don't drill down to the cause. Look at the effect. I have been a pharmacist for 30 years and have never yelled at a colleague.

I thought for generic there is a big difference in price, but for brand name there is minor difference in price.Correct me, if i am wrong. When i checked the price for the cardinal invoice, and our warehouse price,it was about the same

For Wags, they don't care if you order brand names through Cardinal. The issue is with generic warehouse drugs. Even still, if the generic drug is not available to interstore and the person needs it now, than order it through Cardinal. My Rxm won't say anything about ordering brands through Cardinal. You should never demean an employee in front of others. It doesn't make you look good.

That is how it has always been at every store i have been. I pick up a lot shifts at others store. During my almost 3 years at walgreens, i think i may have been to more than 35 stores. I have never seen any issue with ordering brand name from cardinal.

A few days before, a patient came with a script for propafenone 325 mg. Since we did not have it in stock, i called multiple stores to check if they have it. Unfortunately, no store has it. By the way the patient was willing to travel to any wags to get it , as he wanted to take is ASAP. And we are the only store in that small town. The closest store is about 30 miles away.
So in that case, i was going to order it from cardinal as the patient could not wait for the truck. Thank god we have central filling, which picked it up to come the next day.
So that would be a case where i would even order a generic from cardinal.
