I work as a interventional Pain Physician doing only procedures in a Government Hospital. I finish around 4 pm daily. I was never in a PVT practice before. EMG's are done by neurologists in our hospital. I like doing EMG.s. I want to do some EMG's in the evenings 4-6 pm after I finish my job in the hospital.
Even though I live in a small city, it is flooded with pain physicians.
I need your advice regarding starting EMG practice. I am thinking of buying a portable EMG machine which I can take in my car and do emgs in the pain physician's office. What is the best way to approach the local pain physicians, Hand surgeons in the community. I am not planning to do any injections outside my regular work. How much money does it cost for this kind of practice doing only EMG,s. How much will be malpractice?
If I use the space in the physicians office and use their staff services, how much percentage of collections should I offer the Physician ?
Thanks for your thoughts .

Not sure you're allowed to pay the physician that owns the clinic (and is sending you patients) a percentage of your collections (Stark laws?). Believe you'd have to rent space from him/her.

I was trained mostly with cadwell sierra emg machines. I was comfortable using those. Is it legal to pay rent only for the day I use their office for EMG's and not offer percentage of collections. Did any one has done this in the past?
How many patients do I need to see per week so that I can pay for my overhead expenses including my Malpractice in 1-2 years.
Thanks

I'd just rent space. Most docs don't realize how lucrative EMG can be and if the referring docs are seeing your numbers they would want an increasing share of your collections.

just do a rent agreement and stay out of trouble because the collection approach is heading towards gray depending on your state
