Advice regarding Drexel situation as a current applicant!

Hello everyone, I'm sure you've all heard about the main hospital Drexel is affiliated with closing down. I understand and have read stories on how this affects fellows, residents, and current Drexel students but I was wondering what the general consensus is regarding current applicants?

Some people I see saying how you shouldn't apply to the school at all and some saying it'll be fine by the time you start. Do you guys really think that the issue won't be fixed and would still be a huge problem once this current application cycle ends and classes start (August 2020~)?

As someone who submitted their primary with Drexel on their list before this all happened, would greatly appreciate all and any advice!

Don’t complete the secondary if you’re worried. That said, lacking home programs for residency (except peds) really, really sucks. You won’t be left without rotations, though.

I would suggest completing the secondary and see how the situation evolves. You can make a decision after you have a few acceptances in hand.

I dropped Drexel from my list prior to even hearing the hospital situation based solely off of the stuff said on SDN, so happy I did now that I'm hearing this new news. Apparently they're very disorganized and it's the least liked school out of all the philly schools.

What do you mean by home programs? If a medical school has multiple rotations sites (vs. one that has one main hospital where all students rotate), does that mean they don't have a home program?

Theyre only affiliate sites. Abington being an example and they’re owned by Jefferson.

Look at match lists, programs like to stay loyal to their own and we at Drexel don’t have that “safety” net.

That assumes
A) Someone can't replace Drexel with another school they removed from their larger list (unless you're Californian and you're applying anywhere that is in your stat range). And
B) Drexel will accept the person. And
C) Only Drexel will accept the person.

Pretty vague answer lol.. My question is whether it would actually be bad or not to apply there. Is there a good reason not to apply there? Obviously I'd like to go there but if it puts me at a disadvantage then I'd rather not waste my time

If it makes a difference, I will not have had a single rotation at HUH and it isn’t putting me in any disadvantage. You’ll get exposure to different sites instead. You’re not going to get blacklisted by residencies because your parent hospital closed.

It will just be annoying 3rd and 4th year as you might have to move around to more distant sites more often. (This likely being a big reason in the cons section.. and what i said earlier about home residency programs)

My understanding is that Rosy Franklin and Netter do not have home hospitals either, but rely on a close "family" of affiliates, like Drexel will now do. It doesn't seem to hurt their graduates.
