Advice - retake the DAT?

Hi guys,

I'm wondering if I should retake my DAT (I want to apply this cycle). I can't retake it until June, but I was also hoping to submit my application around that time too.

What do you think? Advice would be greatly appreciated! 🙂

I would if I were you unless you are african american or hispanic origin. GPA is def. low for most schools and DAT is not strong either. your lowest scores are QR and GC; which can be raised easily in my opinion. good luck

I used Kaplan and Destroyer, but I didn't have enough time to get through the whole Destroyer. Just OC and GC. I'm definitely going to practice the math now, that's for sure.

Would you recommend any other materials for improving my gchem and math scores?

My top choices would be California schools, but I'm also looking up other schools too.

If you are looking for a California school then you have to retake. I would suggest cliffs A/P bio for biology and crack Dat Pat and Math for the PAT and QR respectively. If you need more help on The sciences I would suggest maybe the Princeton review or even Kaplan's go through the entire book carefully so that you have the background and then make sure that you understand every question and answer in the destroyer.

Unfortunately with your GPA I would recommend a retake ... who knows you might be alright

thanks for the advice! I registered for another DAT and now waiting for the eligibility letter.

Just wondering, what do you think my chances are for other non-Californian dental schools based on the numbers I gave above?

you had some pretty competitive and consistent scores to begin with, but with your gpa definitely retake. just study the same way, but do a little more.

for chem i definitely recommend destroyer and kaplan subject tests if you can get your hands on them. i found them to be really helpful, and similar to the actual thing. Destroyer is a little overkill in gchem but with both of them i went from a 16 > 22. Use Cliffs AP Bio for biology or Campbell's textbook. your PAT is good, but it wouldn't hurt going for a 22 this time, 20 is definitely nice, but a few months of tweaking and you could pull it off.

Go for the retake, put some more time into it and hopefully it will pay off the second time around.
The GPA is a little low, but you can obviously perform on the DAT, you just need to tweek them just a little.

I have similar scores, and I'm not going to retake. I am willing to take my chances, but I do have a higher GPA.
