I need some advice. I am currently working at Walmart as a technician and I am miserable for various reasons--it's not the work so much as the customers and coworkers.

I am also waiting to see if I got accepted into school. I have a good chance since my pre-pharm gpa is above average acceptance, a 3.78 plus I have a BS and tech experience. If I get in, I get to become an intern at my current work with an increase in pay which is great--except I am not as happy there.

I am seriously thinking about looking and hoping I can jump ship to a different store, such as Walgreens. Should I wait the few months to see if I get accepted and look for intern positions or should I try to get hired somewhere else now as a tech to make a smoother transition as an intern?

(PS in my state you can and must become an intern once you are accepted, even a few months before p1 starts)

I would do the latter.

Why wait? If you are unhappy, make a change. The sooner you start, the better chance you have of finding an opening.

Side note though, just changing jobs is not likely to raise your overall happiness at work, imo. You will find things not to like at the new job also. My advice (of course I don't know your situation so take it for what it is worth) is to figure out how to approach your job in such a was as to not hate it. You say you don't like your coworkers - will your next set of coworkers be much different? What can you do to prevent not likeing your coworkers?

Customers will be the same everywhere, unless you find a job in a very different type of area, so just changing from Walmart to Walgreens is not going to help you very much in that regard, imo.

Good Luck!

I am deeply frustrated because I get stuck on the register all day. I get very little opportunity to do the more interesting parts of my job, such as filling, drop-off, insurance, etc. I have been taught poorly--kind of a watch and figure out as you go which has caused mistakes to be made. In fact if I want to learn other things I have to take initiative and go for it, but without someone clearly articulating the specifics and the whys (which can cause problems, but how else am I going to learn?). Plus I have a bit of a commute.

Just be aware that if you move to a different store, you may still be stuck at the register....plus filling, insurance, etc. all at the same time.

Can you transfer to a Walmart Neighborhood Market or any other Walmart?

I use to work at a neighborhood market and we didn't have any technicians that was limited to one responsibility.
