I'm a junior at the University of Georgia studying microbiology. I was wondering what I can add to my profile to help my chances of getting accepted into an optometry program.

My profile:

B.S. Microbiology

Shadowed Optometrist and Opthamologist - Summer 2010
Extensive community service - Tutoring
Held various leadership positions - Served on the general board of 2 organizations (2 years) and Exec. board of 2 organizations (1 year)

I'm planning on gaining more shadowing experience in my next 1.5 years of school.

I was wondering if there was anything else I needed to get involved in such as research etc.

Thanks

Shadow more optometrists in different settings. Perhaps get a job in the field and learn how an optometry office runs. Pretesting patients to learn how to interact and perform basic pretesting exams. Get good grades, do well on the OAT. Your on track!

Biggest things will be OAT and GPA.

by the way.. GO DAWGS!!!

Your profile is a lot like mine and I got accepted into all 4 schools I applied to. My GPA was a 3.79 and OAT was 370/370 (TS/AA). I think you have a good profile as it is, anything else would be a bonus to further strengthen your resume as long as your gpa/oat are in line was well.
