Hi all,

I am applying for next fall, with no pharmacy experience. However I was a medical assistant for 2 years. I just got a call for an interview at Walgreens. They don't have any pharmacy clerk job a/v as of right now, but she said once I get used to working there, that it'll be a lot easier to move to the pharmacy section. They pay minimum wage. Right now, I work fulltime and in class 2X a nite. Do you think this is worth it? Would you do it?

Nope.

my advice is the same too....nope.

unless: you need more money but minimum wage isn't going to cut it. Focus on your courses. that's more important than pharm experience.

I fully agree with the above posts!

Is there anyway that you could shadow/volunteer at a hospital pharmacy or something like that instead (maybe only a few times)? That way you'd at least have some experience, both to put on your application and to make sure that it is something that you really want to do. Your schedule sounds pretty full right now, so I don't think you need to take another paying job just to have pharm. experience.

Good luck!

I really hate it when a candidate comes up in a interview and has the gall to say "I've never been in a pharmacy."

Even standing inside one for eight hours is sufficient that you have some clue as to what you're doing.

Your classes are more important for making that cutoff for interviews.

I'll echo the above posts (and I work as an Rph for WAG too) and say no for the reasons already stated above.

call up some independent Rx to see if they let you just volunteer on weekends or so.
there is no need to get a job when you already have one.
good luck.

I applied at Walgreens hoping to get a pharmacy clerk job too, but the manager said I needed to get formal training from a pharmacy tech. school to work there because there are no pharmacy clerk positions 😱 . Well, he offered me a job as a photo clerk. I took it because I needed a job. It's okay...for now. Photo clerks actually get paid more than any of the other regular store clerks, but I've been trying hard to look for a pharmacy willing to let me work or volunteer. If you all you need is pharmacy experience, I don't think it is worth it.
