I guess it seems like a daunting task to take these courses at a college level when i didnt at the high school level

High school science classes might prepare you for the first couple chapters of your college textbook for the same class. You're not behind at all!

Don't sweat it. I barely graduated high school. The closest I ever came to a chemistry/physics lab was a study hall that met in one. Even then I didn't show up with any regularity. I suppose you might say that students like me are the reason kids of today have so many attendance rules. Point is, I recently took all the classes you refer to and received A's at a well respected 4 year with a greater than ten year break from education. Preparing ahead of time for the actual material is not (in my opinion) necessary. Some can't hurt but the reality is that the material is stuff you just haven't learned yet. Learn it when you take it. I do, however, advise a refresher on all things math. If the math involved is second nature then applying the concepts becomes that much easier.

Thanks for all of the responses. I appreciate it!

Actually, college gen chem assumes that you did take high school chemistry. If that wasn't the case you should absolutely take an intro to chem course before doing gen chem.

Community college
I've said it before and I'll say it again: my CC prereqs (chem, o-chem, calc) were far more challenging than my UC prereqs (bio, biochem, and physics). OP, if you're in California, don't head to CC hoping to take the easy way out, or hoping to get a low-level refresher of basic material.

I'm taking CC prereqs as well. You think it'll get any better in med school? Good professors and bad professors exist in all college realms. In regards to saving money and figuring out if OP really wants to pursue med school, CC may be a better option. They don't have just the basic bio and Chem classes. They have basic remedial courses available as well. I wouldn't go to a college where I'm spending $735-900 a credit (like the 3 large public schools near me) unless I received a scholarship. Because you never know what will happen after you start taking higher level courses.

The amount of premed majors at matriculation in my class who wanted "to be doctors" vs the ones who have actually been admitted.... Probably 25-1. And I went to a small college where everyone knows everybody so that's not an exaggeration on my part.

Khanacademy and look up practice exams online, chemistry and physics are mainly learned through practice
