So I was enrolled in a PhD program but due to some issues with my department I decided toswitch to a masters instead. I was thinking about applying to pharmD programs this admissions cycle. The school where I am told me they would not look at my application until I successfully complete my masters degree. So basically I would have to sit out an entire year because I'll be done with my masters at the end of the summer.Im not doing that and I have decided to just forget about that particular pharmD program. So know I'm in this dilemma where I have to apply to otherschools. I don't mind doing that but what if I'm not admitted? I refuse to sit out an entire year doing nothing. I just need to figure out what I want to do with my life at this point because I'm over the age of 25. Any advice on what I should do? I thought about nursing and PA but I think most of those application deadlines have passed. I just can't catch a break.

This is weird, I just finished my MSc and they had no problem considering my application since I'm done before the next school year starts. That's all that should matter, since some people take summer courses leading up to pharmacy school as well. Maybe apply to a different school? Then again it doesn't sound like you are that committed to pharmacy, as it sounds like you've only tried applying to the one school and are already contemplating switching careers based on a mildly inconvenient situation.

As long as you will be free come fall 2017 to attend classes they really won't care if you are still busy now.

I thought it was weird too. Maybe they just don't want me in their program. I told them that I would be finished before the next cycle and he said they want me to actually be done with it. I'll just take my money elsewhere and apply to other schools. I'm not unsure about it. Pharmacy was my goal initially but I was not admitted so I decided to switch it up. But I don't see myself doing research forever which is why I decided on the masters. I think it's just really hard to get accepted into a pharmD program especially at the school I'm at now. You have to know the right people to get in. That's what it seems like. I just thought that since I went to this particular school for my undergrad and grad studies that it wouldn't be a hard process. I guess I thought wrong.

That's what I thought but they kept coming up with bogus excuses as to why they want to see me complete the masters first. I just don't think they want me in their program. It's not necessarily my first choice but since I'm already pursuing grad studies at this school it just makes sense to apply there. But maybe this is a sign that I should take a chance and apply other places. After that convo I wouldn't feel comfortable attending that school anyways.
