So I have made my rank list and certified it, and have written most of my thank you emails. I have 2 left, one of them being #2, but the program director asked for no thank you's. I was initially not going to send any correspondence, but I feel like I will be skipped over if I don't send any communication. I don't want to tell more than 1 program that they are 1 since it's not honest, but since this program is #2, I definitely would be happy there, and wouldn't mind ending up there, so I definitely want to show some "love." PD is also very no, "nonsense". How do I express that I really like the program and would really like to be there, and that it will be very highly ranked but without saying that?

I have been told not to say "highly ranked" since it's as informative and vague as saying "you're a great fit" or "we'd love to see you in July."

I think it may make a difference and I would feel anxious not sending something. I sent my #1 a will rank you #1 email, and 2 days later I was told I was on their rank list.

Help!

No means no. Don't send any correspondence or communication to your #2 program. Any possible advantage you might gain would be outweighed by the stigma of "cannot follow simple instructions."

I know it's difficult but trust in the Match. You've already sent your #1 program feedback, that's enough.

Agree with above. One of the biggest red flags can be someone who is so aggressive they do something despite being told not to. Lay low and hopefully everything works out for you.

Ok guys, based on your advice, I won't contact the program. I just hate this feeling of no communication whatsoever with a program post interview. I really hope they don't think I'm uninterested. At the very least, I would have sent thank you notes, but like you all have mentioned, I don't want to be looked down upon or be seen as not being able to follow instructions by sending those. PD may have meant that in a general way as well not to contact others, so I guess I'll leave it at that.

And I guess that for programs #3 and on, the consensus is send a thank you and nothing else right? Since the whole "ranking you highly" could be more bad than good.

At this point in the game, the only thing that will make a big difference is if you can send them something that will Improve your application or having a big wIg call on your behalf. A bribe couldn't hurt.. 🙂.
