Hello Every body,

my back ground:
came to the Us in 2001 from Lebanon. B.S Biology in 2006. MED program at UNC Chapel Hill in 2005, got recommended for dental school. volunteered 70 hours at presby ER, around 180 hrs shadowing a Periodontist, 100 hrs general dentist. 2 research projects, animal behavior and immunology. 3.5 GPA. no family in the US. was a full time student and worked around 60 hrs a week during college.

I applied to dental school for the 08 cycle and did not get in. My DAT score was not great because i did not prepare well and did not do any complete practice tests. I am at fault for that and i am going to study better and take at least 6 practice tests before I take it again.

worst scores were QR=14 and RC=13.
English is my second language and i was not much of a reader. I also did not take a lot of math in college.😕

I would like to know what is the best way to improve my DAT score as a whole. some people recommended that i read dental journals, any recommendations?
Also, any good computer based practice tests/ any Cd with 5 tests?

Thank you in advance for your responses, I just want this stage to be over.😡

Do as much practice as you can. Get a hold of TS, Achiever, Destroyer, Crack the DAT and BB first. Finish all those and make sure you understand all the questions you got wrong.

Practising a verbal section every other day first thing in the morning also helps a lot!!

Yea, I felt the same way as you after my first score (QR 15, RC 18). My second round was much better (QR 18, RC 25). I think what helps for you all depends on how you learn, but personally I don't think I would've benefited from reading scientific journals (I read a lot of journals during my undergrad and my second score was better only after a lot of practicing). If you take a lot of practice tests, you'll realize that there's a pattern in the ways you should attack the questions for RC. TopScore helped a lot with my QR because a lot of the problems were similar and had comparable complexity. TopScore also helped with RC in the same way.

Thank You for the help, will try everything this time and buy a lot of practice tests.

FlyingKAo, thanks for the advise. I know that my biggest mistake was not taking even one practice test before the test. but you are right a lot of people are saying the same thing.

You're welcome 🙂. Yeah, for my first DAT I only had a week to practice/study...BIG mistake. I guess I underestimated the DAT. Second time around I gave myself a full month and it helped a lot 👍.

Good luck!
