hey my statement is coming together nicely but i have noticed that i have not talked about ostepathic medicine, is that a big no-no???????

has anyone else had a statement where osteopathic medicine was not mentioned in their statement????

should i have in my staement explicitly why i want to pursue osteopathic medicine, or will it be ok that i discussed why i want to be a physician????????

thanx

Hi RNtoDO, If things don't go well for me this year I may be doing the same thing (RN to DO). For your personal statement, I would put why you want to be a DO only if you can fit it in the 3000 character limit. Maybe just why you want to be a physician for the PS then elaborate on that when each school asks for a secondary essay. Remember the rule of KISS

Keep it simple stupid (no offense intended) 😉

has anyone
finished their personal statement and realized there was no room left to write about why osteopathic medcicine?????

I did not include DO info on my aacom personal statement but I did add it to the secondaries. I'm not sure how affective this was but I did get an acceptance. Hope this helps...

advice i have received says to "at least state why osteopathic medicine ?"

yes, i did include it very briefly.

Hi, i think if you can fit it that would be good, but if not don't worry to much about it, make sure to put all your info on the secondaries. I did notice on the AACOMAS app there is that question "how did you learn about osteopathic medicine" and in the directions section it says If you choose "other" then to explain that in your personal statement. So, becuase I chose Other I did talk about how I became interested in Osteopathic Medicine. Either way I wouldn't worry about it too much 🙂 I would try to fit something in, if it flows nicely, otherwise save it for the secondaries.

my advise iss to use a sspell check.

Your statement should reflect the topic. If the topic is open-ended, then write about anything you please. Just don't make it boring.
Keep in mind that you will need to save some substance for your secondary applications, which will most likely ask why you wish to pursue osteopathic medicine at that particular school. So, you'll get your chance to express your undeniable passion for osteopathic medicine.

just a thought, I did get in using this btw.... write in accordance with why you want to be a physician... Let your actions speak for you in your statement... save the question,"why do you want to be a DO?" for your secondary, because you will be asked that question is four different ways atleast at that point...

I hope this helps, but do NOT stress out about your app....

it is far more important to introduce yourself as someone they would like to have the priviledge of having at their school, than to idly meet just another member of the crowd... Be distinctive within reason is the point... BE YOU, not someone else...

You will get in!

would anyone like to critique my essay???????
give me ur emails and i will send it if u do???

I did not come out and say "I want to be an osteopathic physician becuause"...

In my personal statement, there is one line that says that i have not changed career goals even though people have attempted to convince me that osteopathic medical doctors are not real doctors. I also made sure that my views (which are definately very much in line with the osteopathic philosophy) were clear. In the end I did not exactly use the plain old line but made the adcoms realize that I had chosen osteopathic medicine only, and made sure they realized that the osteopathic philosophy was important to me.
