Hello All,

I was wondering if anyone is willing to help me in advising me for my future semesters. A little about me, I am a Sophomore -- Currently taking Pre-Requisites at my Community College (Well I transferred here Spring 2014 [this semester] to put my head back into school!).

These are the classes I have taken so far..

Fall 2012:
Psychology: B
Academic Writing I: B
College Reading and Study Skills: B-
Chemistry I: C-

There was a reason behind these grades, and you could probably search some of my previous posts and you will see the reasoning for this. Short Story: I was in the hospital for a month and a half.

Spring 2013:
Business Law: C+
Italian I: A
Finite Mathematics: B+
Macro-Economics: B+
Intro to Computing: B+

I didn't really do well that semester but was still dealing with the effects of my previous semester. The next semester again, my grandma passed (My main supporter) on Thanksgiving.

Fall 2013:

Sacred and Secular to East Asia: W
Statistics: D (Had an A the whole semester, teacher says if you get below a 50 on the final he will fail us, I got bad anxiety, and got a '33' on the final. Fought it with the Dean of Students and they changed it to a D)
Financial Accounting: D

Not trying to make it seem like I am making excuses for my poor academics, but I have been through a lot in the whole year and a half.

During Spring 2013, I volunteered at VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance), where I provided over 300+ hours to prepare taxes for low income families who cannot afford regular tax preparation. I was a Site Coordinator, so I oversaw the whole site to make sure returns were accurate, and there were no problems between the clients and the government.

Spring 2014 (In Progress):
Intro to Biology
Chemistry I
Sociology
Pre-Calculus
Freshman English I

I am wondering if I get an A in the Freshman English I class would that overwrite my Academic Writing I grade. (For some reason my Writing Class didn't transfer.) They are pretty identical, just with different names. I know Chemistry will definitely be replaced, and I have confidence that I will get an A.

Summer 2014 (Future):

Anatomy & Physiology I
Anatomy & Physiology II
**MAYBE:
Calculus I
Calculus II

The calculus classes are morning classes.. and the A&P classes are night, so I will have more than enough time to study for each class. This will knock out my math classes, and I have confidence that I will do well in these classes.
Sorry about all of this and I know it's a big thread, but I was wondering if someone could give me advice for all of this, and the track I am taking.

Fall 2014 (Future):
Chemistry II
Freshmen English II
Art
History
General Biology (Or Physics)
PES (Physical Wellness)
Then Two 1/2 Credit Gym Classes, if I can stay at 18.5 Credits for a semester. (Not too sure if I can -- I will have to check)

Spring 2014 (Future):
Organic Chemistry I
General Biology II
Statistics (For some reason Pace University has Statistics as a 4 Credit Class, and I know most schools only offer a 3 credit class, so will that D no way be replaced? Really confused about that..)

Was wondering if anyone has advice on this timeline. I know it seems like a lot of work, but this is my dream. I am thinking of transferring to SUNY Oswego, and major in Biochemistry.

If people want to PM me, or comment on the thread I'd greatly appreciate it. I know everyone on this site has heavy schedules, and any little bit of information will help!

For the English credits, if the descriptions are the same, aacomas should accept the retake. If your first stat course was 3 hours and the new stat course is 4 hours, the second one will count in aacomas grade replacement (can be equivalent or more hours than the course being replaced, just not less).

If you do well this semester, you're on your way to making those first semesters look better. I don't know how feasible A&P I&II and Calc I&II are in just one summer, that's up to how the summer schedules are at your school. An 18.5 hour semester is quite a bit for someone getting off to a rough start like you have, but if you can do well in 4 courses in a single summer then I imagine you can handle it.

You may already realize this since you're posting in pre-D.O., but even though your bad grades that first year were in bs gen ed courses, you likely don't have much chance at allopathic schools.

Pro tip: see an academic counselor about your test anxiety asap. Exams are going to be in your life for a while.

Hi DoctorKrieger, I have always wanted to do DO, I ultimately want to go in Emergency Medicine. The thing is the previous Stats course was 4 credits, so I'll just have to eat the D then. The D as in the grade, not the actual D (Sorry was a Joke). The reason why I'm posting on the site, is because I go to a community college, and there really isn't a Pre-Med advisor, only Nursing Advisors. So when I approached them with questions, they were extremely confused because they can only talk for Pre-Nursing. I even asked a few of my science teachers..

So Pace University is where you already took the stats course? If so, you'll have to find a stats course that is 4 (or more) credits in order for the grade to be replaced in aacomas.

Also, when planning to decide which classes to retake, remember that science gpa and cumulative gpa are separated when applying for med school. So that C in Business Law, for example, I wouldn't bother taking again. If it was an F, that's a different story.

You're going to need to deal with the anxiety issues, because medical school is a crucible. Also, developing better coping skills will be an asset.
I believe I just got bad anxiety because of the way he said it, and it was out of the blue during the test. I totally blanked, and I never have did that before.

You'll have preceptors whom willbe a lot more, and overtly meaner that your professor. How will you deal with them?
Oh, I'm not meaning the literal way he said it. I'm talking about it being so random. It didn't even state that in the Syllabus. Which was a huge reason why I fought it.
