I just assumed that she got a lot of non-serious visitors who said the same thing. I know it is tough to hear, hell I think I almost broke out in tears,
She still helped me though, even though she didn't believe in me, and put me into class groups that had certain priorities for the pre-reqs. She also gave me a list of the recommended pre-med classes for the school. As far as more than that she wasn't helpful, but it wasn't because of her opinion, I reasoned, but because she didn't know. Like which professor is better than which for MCAT purposes. SDN pretty much supplied the rest of what I needed (use that search feature)!
But anyways, I was able to get the information I needed rather than be dejected, leave, or give up. In the end that is what matters most, you may find that a lot of people will not believe but eventually they will, especially if you continually perform well.

I was so surprised with the pre-med adviser's reaction..... I was so nervous before my meeting and was expecting to get laughed out or "strong encouragement" to look elsewhere. After all, I have a lot of credits that I screwed up.... not because of lack of ability, but because of lack of motivation/desire/care. I did not expect to be taken seriously at all. This guy doesn't SEEM particularly fluffy, either. He has an excellent track record and the amount of acceptances into medical school has gone up dramatically in the past five years that he's been there. He told me about one of his other long shots and made me a three year plan. I'm sure I'm not high on his list of priority students, by any means, but I'm just happy to have the support of someone who isn't related to me!
P.S. I did tear up a little. I'm pretty sure that did nothing to help my appearance of sanity. Ha..... and then I celebrated a little. I felt silly, because I'm sure it's not something the average student would feel worthy of celebration, but it sure did make me happy.

This is good to hear. My meeting with the pre-med adviser was intimidating to say the least. She was scary and I didn't think she would take me seriously since I was changing majors and having to really start over. She was very honest and told me what was up and how hard it was going to be.
