For schools who have both AEGD/GPR programs as well as Endo: can the AEGD/GPR residents be sort of like a “feeder” into endo/ are you more favored when applying to their endo program? Is it common for schools to prefer their own students? I know this can sometimes be the case for dental school and then applying to a residency program of the same school. If so, do you know of any specific schools in which this is the case? Thanks in advance!

Schools may prefer their own dental students because the department gets close and consistent interaction with you. So they get a good feel for who you are and whether they would like to teach you and mentor you for 2-3 years. This isn’t really the case for AEGD. And especially not for GPR’s. But if you can find the time to create a relationship with endo while you are doing a PGY it could definitely help.
