👍 Hi everybody?
Last edited:
according to ADA some states will allow u to practice after an accredited post grad program like AEGD.U can look up this information under licensure for international graduate.
👍 Hi everybody? I have an important question that needs a realistic answer.
Alot of people now including me are interested in AEGD program, hoping to get a lisence after. Now imagine you are done with those two years, what is next? How sure you are to get your lisence, and after how long?
I am just worried that I may find myself still struggling after loosing 2 years and much money on this program. Specially most of the people have no real clues on how things goes after that program? And most of the answers even from faculty members in that respected program is : We are not sure? It is not 100% guaranted to get your lisence after 2 years.
👍.........plz share your views and your experience..........👍
Thank you Nile bds. Yes I think you are right. It may be easy to get the license but it may not be easy to find a good offer with a good salary. plus I think the malpractice will be very high in the beginning for those who keep their foreign degree.
I don`t know, I am really confused. I have a high chance to get into AEGD program this year. That is why I am trying to understand every aspect of it first, and I think here is the best way to share ideas and opinions. So plz everyone share your experience and your opinion about this topic.
Again, HOW DO YOU EXPECT YOUR FUTURE AFTER 2 YEARS OF AEGD???

me too i'm more inclined towards/ AEGD/GPR because its loan free..
but at the same time think its better if i had a US degree too, but you know in the end it will all be the same. Maybe it will be tough INITIALLY to get a job with good pay for AEGD graduates than a DMD/DDS graduate.
i did speak to alot of DMD graduates, they have not done alot of cases, they believe in quality than in quantity. i guess we should be fine after 2 years of extra practice we get in these programs. but its really HARD to get in. its highly competetive, tougher than a dmd/dds program
Most states now are moving towards licensure by post graduate training, and that seems to be the emerging trend.

Both things you stated are NOT true. You will get job offers just as anyone else, all they care about is that you're licensed. Malpractice insurance premiums will be the same for an FTD as it's for everybody else.
Only disadvantage that I know of of doing a 2 yr AEGD or GPR is that you are limited in the number of states where you can get licensed which is not a big deal as most DDS graduates choose one or 2 states to obtain a license anyways!

agreed.
Heck, they might start requiring even US grads to do a min of 1 year GPR or AEGD in the future anyways. (a few states already do this) 👍
Here are the facts:
1. Most employers will state the fact that the dentist be a graduate of and holders of DDS/DMD from an accreditted university.
2. Malpractice insurance will be higher if you are an FTD.
3. NY state won't give you a full dental license unless you are a US citizen or a greencard holder. You also must have a US dental school conferred DDS/DMD degree. Foreign degree won't do.
