Anyone able to give some insight on researching locations for 1 year AEGD's? I understand that everyone's experience at each base is different, and I am wondering if there is any objective way to choose a base to practice. In your experiences, will choosing a large base with a lot of specialty programs generally take away from our ability to do OS, perio, fixed etc or will it give us more opportunities to work with specialists on our own cases?

Also, I understand that we are limited in the procedures we are allowed to perform right out of school (molar endo etc) - does the AEGD program lift these restrictions? Also, any practical advice for avoiding the amalgam line and getting the opportunity for more challenging cases no matter where we end up?

Looking for advice from any particular service??

pick the post that is at the place you would most like to live. i don't think there is any way to say that one AGD location gives you a better education than another.

the AGD locations are all at large posts. there will be plenty of procedures at any location. i wouldn't expect you to have to worry about losing procedures to other specialty programs at any of them. forts campbell and carson don't have any other residencies, so if you are worried about it, those two would be the places to choose. the various specialty programs are spread out fairly well, so it shouldn't be a concern.

every dentist has different credentials, based upon their skills. completing an AGD will increase the number of procedures you are credentialed for, based upon your skill level. at the end of the program, your skills will be assessed in each area, and recommendations will be made, individually.
