I'm an accepted med student and after much consideration, reached out to my regional Air Force recruiter about the HPSP early last month. I left a few voice mails but after about a week he got back to me. We discussed the process at length, and he had me send in a some required documents to his Air Force email (since some system was down). He said he would follow up with what else he needed and attempt to get a MEPS date set up. Now it's been almost a month, and I've heard zero back from this guy. I've called, left voicemails, texts, emails - nothing. I'm half-concerned this dude just stole my SSN at this point lol. But seriously, I know the HPSP process is time sensitive. Do I have any other options besides continuing to call this guy? I'm not too interested in the other branches.

I would call the local AF recruiter office and ask to speak with someone else. Or better yet if you can call the medical recruiter office for Air Force closest to you and speak with someone. Recruiters are often very busy and I know quite a few had training this past week so they might just have been out of the office and busy.

Yeah, and some of them are just lazy and DGAF, unfortunately. I agree with finding a different recruiter.

I went through 4 recruiters for medical recruiting in the Army until I found one I liked and felt like he was on board with helping me out. It all worked out and I commissioned.

I have buddies who work recruiting. I wouldn't want the job!

My understanding is that the Army is unique in that they use normal recruiters for healthcare recruiting. AF and Navy use dedicated healthcare recruiters. The upside to that is that they know this process better, but the downside is there is usually only one for a very large region.

I believe AMEDD has dedicated recruiters with specialty training. All of the ones I spoke with had either an officer medical AOC or an enlisted medical field MOS prior to going into medical recruiting. Now if you are off the beaten path from a straight doc and some tiny subspecialty like I was then you are kind of a golden unicorn to most medical recruiters. The process had some rocky spots, but it all ended up at a point I am happy with. I'm just happy to serve and be in, but if I had been active duty full time and not reserves I might now have had such a rosy outlook.

I’m on the east coast and my recruiter is in IL lol.

Go to the recruiting center, wait for your recruiter to get off work. Follow him home. If you can, get in to the backseat of his car before he even gets off work and wait for him. This kind of intervention shows drive and initiative, and is sure to make him realize that you would make an excellent officer in the Army Air Corps.

I always heard if you go in a dark room and close the door and turn off the lights and say their name 3 times they will appear? 🙂

What does the Air Force reserves offer as far as financial assistance... asking for a friend of course lol?!

You actually have that backwards Army is the only one that has army designated healthcare recruiters. Navy and Air Force use "officer" recruiters. I was a combat medic, went to recruiter course then a healthcare recruiter specific course and only recruit for medical.

I know plenty of NC and MSC types on CANREC orders. I get regularly contacted by the Navy officer health care recruiters from the local NRD for a variety of things. HPSP interviews, got any friends who want to join, can you do my PHA.

I will just say this I dealt with a few medical recruiters and the one who eventually got me commissioned knew his stuff as did anyone else I have dealt with in AMEDD recruiting. I also would say there is no way in %^&$ I would want your job!

My Navy HPSP recruiter is a dedicated medical officer recruiter, as is the one my other classmates have spoken with and the one listed on the contact sheet we got at orientation. And they’re all HMs.
