The problem with your argument, that schools focus on how girls learn and boys need more action and to be running around is that, as you say above, 30 years ago this wasn't the case. But 30 years ago, classes were very much lecture based where you sat and listened quietly for pretty much most of the day...and yet, males did fine in that situation. I think you'd be pretty hard pressed to find a school 30 years ago that had boys running around and doing lots of hands on activities, if anything, schools have become way more active and hands on than in the past.
I don't buy that at all. Recess and gym have been on the decline from everything I've read. Physical activity is on the way out the door, as evidenced by our obese elementary students.
 
Ummm...I'm pretty sure that's because women are more likely to go see a doctor and be treated for something. And most of the focus in medicine has primarily been on males for a good long time, only recently are diseases (like stroke and heat disease) being seriously looked at in women. The difference is that women seem to be more actively in seeking treatment and promoting research on their disease. How many women participate in some sort of Breast Cancer activity? How many men will even talk about Prostate Cancer?
That's only a small part of it. This came up in one of my classes recently, and it's believed now that women are at an evolutionary advantage for longevity now, because without the deaths from child birth that used to be a huge cause of female mortality, women now outlive men.

According to new study from Ireland, boys spend almost twice as much time as girls in hard physical activity every day. That equates to an average of 64.3 minutes for boys, versus 37 minutes for girls. The study focused on Irish children, ages 7 to 10. Not surprisingly, a child's fitness level was linked directly to physical activity. But here's an unexpected finding: More active girls were not necessarily slimmer. In general, kids of normal weights spent between 96 minutes and 114 minutes per day in moderate physical activity. The study was published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine

In a Brazilian study, school children were selected at random and evaluated for ADD, first by using the current DSM IV criteria, and then using alternative "neuropsychologic criteria" which included items such as "altered tone: hypotonia or paratonia" and "difficulty in learning." [1] When the DSM IV criteria were used, 25% of the boys were classified as ADD while 11% of the girls were so classified. But when the alternative criteria were used, 4% of both boys and girls were considered ADD. The researchers concluded that the use of DSM IV criteria overestimates the prevalence of ADD, especially among boys.

The 25% diagnostic rate for boys cited above may seem rather unbelievable. Yet in a Virginia study of 30,000 children in two school districts, a full 20% of the 5th grade white boys were found to be taking medications for ADD in school. [2]
