Hello all! I'm planning to apply to OT schools next Fall of 2011 for Fall 2012 start. I don't have the best statistics. I'll graduate with a 3.0 and have a 3.35 in my preq. classes. I haven't taken the GRE yet but I'm sure I'll fall pretty average on that, I struggle with standardized tests. But I am working on having a couple hundred hours of volunteer/ shadowing. I also have people who will write great letters of req.

-Does anyone know of schools that are looking more on experience and shadowing rather than GPA? Or has anyone had a similar experience to mine?
If so please share where you applied.

- Does anyone of schools that have a flexiable GPA requirement?

- I know CSUDH and CSUSJ are afforadable public schools (4000ish per semester), are there any other schools that aren't crazy expensive?

- How many schools is "normal" to apply to?

csudh & csusj are affordable, however, they look at your numbers. I think csudh looks more closely at your stats/numbers than csusj as they do not require a personal statement. When I went to the information session at csudh, they said that the numbers/grades are what you have control over--everyone is going to write great things in the recommendations & the personal statements. That being said, I think 3.0 gives you a good chance, especially with all the volunteer hours you plan on putting in. CSUSJ does put emphasize on your recommendations so you will probably have a good chance there as well! Good luck!

Thanks for the quick response! Are you applying to CSUDH too? How has your application experience been?

Yea, CSUDH is one of my first choices so hopefully I get in! Ive applied to St. Augustine for the summer session & plan on applying to Dominician & USC. I didnt get into SJSU last year and I didnt apply elsewhere so this time around I am applying to more than one place. Did you already apply to csudh ?

i've applied to 6 master's programs and if i don't get in or if i can't afford it or whatever i am going to start a COTA program fall 2012. I graduated CSULB actually!

It's SJSU, no one refers to it as CSUSJ.

if you go the COTA route, will that be easier to get into a masters program if you want to pursue it but take longer? how will that work?

If I go the COTA route, I will stay there. There are transitional programs for COTAs but I probably wouldn't do that. I'd just be a COTA.
