After file is complete...?

My file has been in review at several places for about a month now. I have not heard anything from these schools and I do not know whether this means that they just don't like me, or they just have an enourmous number of applications and they did not get to my application yet.
Should I contact the schools to see what is the status of my application? I have no idea what to do, but to wait like this, without knowing anything, is driving me crazy.
