After pharmacy

I've done a little of my own research, but as someone applying to pharmacy school I feel like I know very little about the opportunities/areas of interest/work that graduates may pursue. All I ever hear about is A) retail or B) hospital...

Could anyone in the field (or anyone that is knowledgeable) tell me about how one would go into academia? What are fellowships/residencies for? What else can one do after completing a pharm.D. ?
