After your transcript is submitted and your Junior year is completed, do your grades after that matter as long as you're above a 3.0?

I am shooting for MD/PhD and want to load up on a lot of upper level science classes the summer after junior year and my senior year that will likely result in a much lower GPA than I will apply with.

For example, if I wanted to take Physical Chemistry, Partial Differential Equations, Developmental Biology, and Modern Physics all at once, I'd probably end up with a few Bs. But I'm more interested in the knowledge I'd gain from the classes for my research career.

So would it really kill me to go from a 3.8+ to a 3.0 after I apply?

you better be sure you're going to get accepted. Because if you aren't that 3.0 will REALLY hurt you if you re-apply. It will hurt your GPA, show a downward trend, AND show a lack of enthusiasm about your classes since you clearly are only doing well to get accepted into medical school.

Some schools will hinge their decision of you based on your fall grades. And, as BeancheBlanco stated, if you don't get accepted this round, having a significant dip in your GPA during your senior year won't look good on your second application.

A couple of B's will not put your GPA from a 3.8 to a 3.0

This is your opportunity to take those courses that you need/want to prepare for your graduate studies. Just don't slack off because it's your senior year.
