Hi.

I know age is a factor in acceptance to residency programs. Especially related to IMGs who may have graduated several years ago, and have relocated to the states. Have you heard of people in their 40's or 50's being accepted? is there a set (even unsaid) cutoff age? or does date of graduation of medical school come into play as well?

thanks

Age could be a factor in certain specialties. For example, I know of one instance at my medschool a couple of years ago where an exceptional nontraditional MS in their 50s, met every qualification for neurosurgery. Even had a medical/surgical background.

During my 3rd year clerkship in neurosurgery, the chief said they did interview that MS, but ultimately passed on them because of the years needed for residency. Of course they did not tell the MS during the interview, but likely their age came up during ranking.

MS ended up matching to anesthesiology.
