Hi guys,

Just tryna figure out if my math is right.
Soo....
I will graduate from college at 22
Take a gap year
Enter dental school at 23 & graduate at 27
1 year residency for general at 28
orthodontics specialty for 2 years ... 30
1 year of orhto residency ...31

seems right?
i am just trying to set up a track for myself

Most people go to ortho residency straight out of school. Most people do the general dentistry residency so it prepares them for being a better general dentist. Residency is the same as specialty. So you can take a bunch of years off your math.
22, 23, 27, 29 is what you're looking at if you're going to a 2-year ortho residency. Most places are 3 years now so you would finish at 30.

I don't know particularly about GPR and Ortho, but there are residencies (like endo) that straight up prefer you do a GPR or practice for a few years before going into endo. Doing a GPR does make you look good in a lot of ways, though. It certainly doesn't hurt your chances of getting into a residency in the chance that you don't get in right out of dental school.
