How old is everyone and how far through your prereqs are you guys?
I am also curious about your long term goals? (maybe short term for some)

What age do you all aspire to be when you graduate from dental school or get into dental school?? either one!

Im 27 and im hoping to get into school fall 09

29 will enter at age 30. Not planning on specializing. Will finish pre-reqs by start of dental school.

26, finished prereq's a few semesters ago, finished my BS degree this summer and banking on matriculating Fall '09. Ya, I used to think I'd be done by 30, not gonna happen.

I'm going to be 33 next month. Have worked as an RN for twelve years. Then back to school, finished my BS on Dec. 2006. Hoping to get into 2009 entering class.
Yeah, I'm older than most of you all.. but,
I've learned that 'age' is not a matter to complete a dream. 👍

Ya, someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the entering class of 2007 at ASDOH had a couple students in their fifties. I think it's awesome.

I'm one of the younger applicants this cycle...I hope this won't be a knock against me.

I am 33. I have a BS and MS in mechanical engineering and have worked as a R&D project manager at a government lab since 2001.

I will finish my prereqs in May 2009 and hope to start dental school in July 2009.

I currently have no plans to specialize, but will work as if I plan to...just in case. If everything works out as planned, I will take over my dentist's practice when I graduate.

I'm 24 and if all goes as planned I will finish my under-grad in 2011, and enter dental school that fall.

34. Will be 35 when I start dental school (if all goes as planned). Start Fall 2009.

22 Years old right now, would enter at 23, exit 27 then specialize perhaps 29 be done.

Am 19 now, entertering 2009 class at 20. Done 24.

This thread is awesome! I will be 26 this fall, and I've been getting that "I'm getting to old to keep on with this application garbage" feeling. But now I am encouraged. Thanks everyone over 25!

Currently 25... starting at 27. Planning on doing a joint MPH program... so finishing at 31 or 32.

I am 22 right now and by September 2009 I will be the ripe age of 23! Thus, I'll be 27 when I'm done and then work a few years and enjoy life before having kids.

31. I am practicing as a physical therapist for the past 5 years and hope that I will get in the following year. I was laughing when someone stated their goal was to own a practice by 30...it made me realize that I am not getting any younger!!!

My in-laws went to dental school in their 50's after their business failed.

I'm 20, all my prerequisites are done so it's just a waiting game now🙂 short term goal: enjoy my 21st bday and get some interviews, long term goals: graduate dental school, join a group practice, open my own general practice

22....hopefully get in Fall 2009 at age of 23...get out at 27...hopefully get Navy scholarship, thus 4 years payback minimum...done with that 31-33 maybe...also depending on if i specialize...go into navy reserves....get a practice after payback.

20 right now, 21 when I hope to start in Fall 09, 25 when I finish d-school (24 if I go to UoP), add on a couple years if I decide to specialize.

Goals are to just make it in and through with my personal/social life intact.

23 now, enter at 24, finish at 28, then who knows......live life i guess.

25 now (26 in a few months) 27 once I get in. I have to finish bio 2 and physics. I hope to finish school and have lots of kids with my wifey... Making some money would be nice too..

21, will be 22 entering class 2009 and finish 25 (UOP) or 26.

Good for you! Determination is underrated.

PS. I have that same quote in about 50 font as my wallpaper

24 now, applying for fall 2009 which puts me at 25

I'm 20 and want to either get in this year '09 or next '10.

present age: 24
degree(s): BS Biology, MS Animal Physiology (pretty sure my prereqs are covered - haha)

if all goes well, i will be 25 entering...29 peacing out...been living my life for as long as i can remember 😎

I'm 20. Will graduate undergrad in 2010, take a year off, then hopefully start dental school in 2011 at age 23, graduate at age 27.

Yeah good luck getting into specialty without first doing a GPR. Only the best schools students, or those that graduate top of their class get that.

I am 20, i graduated College with all pre-reqs this past June. I hope to Start Dental School in fall 09 and be done completely with residencey when i am 28. (unless i can get into OMFS where i would not be done nutil i was 30-32)

I'm 20, and if all goes well, I will be 21 starting dental school Fall 2009.

If not, I will have to continue as an ungrad for another year, get my bachelors in '10 and start Fall 2010.

Short term & long term goals: Have fun.

Done with pre-reqs. 26 Hopefully I get into dental school by the age of 27 finish 31. During my clinical year I'd go assess myself if I'd go for pedo or oral surgery or public health whichever I'd be most useful. Lol, they all seem interesting to me. Then if I get my specialty, I'd like to do some volunteer teaching among dental students in a university (this is probably rare since most excellent students get the offers to teach). Practice GPR for a year or 2 before going on to specialty. Also, pay back loans asap.

how is this possible? Unless your bday is after Sept

One can take multiple summer courses to graduate early...get accepted into a dental school after 3 years and earn their bachelor's and DDS/DMD at the same time...or you can start college early...my wife (I jokingly call her Doogie) started med school at 19

I dont think a 19 year old is mature enough to be in dental or med school. I mean, 18-25 are some of the best years of your life, so why not have any time to enjoy them without being slammed with school? I am 22 and will start dental school at 23. But I even feel that it is young..

you mean anticipate 23 😀
and I agree with your post

i'm 34, RN for 7 years now, just enrolled again to get my BS, so probably in 3-4 years I'll try for dental school. Wish me luck🙁

The 19 year olds are mainly from Minn where they have a joint program, you dont have to be special to graduate from college early, you mainly need to live in a state that allows it/has the joint program

Or, you could have skipped a grade like some people have. If I hadn't taken a year off, applied right away and got in I would have been entering dschool at 20. If I applied after 3rd year and got in (ha!) I would have entered at 19, It's possible.

I'm 29, hopefully starting in 09 (we'll see) which will put me at 33/34 when I get out.

It's likely I will be at this at least another year, but I'm going to plan my life as if I'm accepted (ie I'm already thinking about selling my house and moving if necessary...)

Got to get your credit in order, get everything squared away. Then if I wait a year it will be easy as pie to transition next year.

I'm 21, and applying next year. just need my LOE and thats about it to be fully ready.

From what I've heard, >age is better, unless you're 73.

At 21 I could beat anyone of you at a drinking contest. That's about the best thing I could say for myself at 21, besides I was pretty slick at the guitar back then.

Studying kind of cuts into practice time. 🙁

I'm 19 and I decided to get all of my gen eds out of the way during Freshman year. I ended up taking a Anatomy & Physiology class by choice, so that's the only pre-req I have out of the way for my schools thus far.

My goal is to graduate at 21 and immediately go on to Dental School.

As you can see from my avatar, Sculpture is also a passion of mine. I'd love to pursue Maxillofacial Prosthetics (a sub-specialty of Prosthodontics), but that is something I'd most likely pursue after many years of being a General Dentist.

As for the maturity comment, I had my fun in high school. I work, focus on academics and spend time with those I love. I personally feel I have my priorities in check and would be fully prepared for Dental School. I enjoy how I spend my time, I don't feel "the best years of my life" need to be spent the typical college way.

i will be done with d-school at 26 but I am severely depressed that i feel i have wasted half of my 20s in school and the second half will be in severe debt. i think the people in my class that did something else first got it right but they would tell you different. lets just say 2nd year has got me down

Well I'll be done at 30, so at least you have a couple more productive years than me

you'll be working for the next 30 years of your life. take it easy and enjoy school life while you still have it.

Great thread. All of a sudden I dont feel too old as I'm applying for fall 2009 cycle.

Currently 25. Hopefully get in this cycle and start at 26. Finish by 30. Residency for 2 yrs and I should be practicing privately by 32. Own a private office by 40. And IF I make all the right choices, hopefully...HOPEFULLY BY SOME GRACE OF GOD, retire or semi-retire at 50. 😀
