Hi everyone, I just registered with this forum after justing breezing through a couple of time. I am 21 years old, about to finish my undergrad in a couple of months in international Business but i think I have decided I want to go into PT. So I will try to take all the pre reqs this coming year for DPT.

I know there are a lot of things I have to consider to better my chances of getting into a good school but after reading some of the post here, I wanted to know, does age matter. it seems a lot of the people that are getting accepted have already had careers for a few years or have been taking science classes for a while. Do you guys know if those things will hold me back?

A lot of people apply to PT school right after undergrad as their first career. I really don't think your age will be a problem for you.
All the schools I've looked at accept students from a variety of BA degrees. If you're worried, I would recommend doing very well with the prereqs so the schools you apply to know you have the knowledge and study habits you need.
I'm graduating in a couple of months with my undergrad too and applied and was accepted to PT school for next year. I'm your age and didn't have a problem.

good luck 🙂

you'd probably receive more responses if you posted this under pre-PT

I definitely don't think age matters! I just finished my undergrad in December and I am starting PT school this May. In fact, I will be starting PT school two days before I turn 21 so I don't really think age matters.

Age does not matter. It should not matter your age, unless you happen to be applying when you're 86, as there is a physical demand on physical therapists. =]

I guess that answers it. Thanks everyone and I'll try to be more careful which forum I post under. Thanks again.

There is one person in my current DPT class that just had her 21st birthday. Age is JUST a number if you are responsible and dedicated to your education.

I started PT school at the age of 21. It didn't impact me negatively in any way. My classmates like to poke fun though 🙂 But in all seriousness, they have all respected my hard work and told me that starting early is one of the best things I could have done for myself.
