I accidentally told my professors that I did 130 hours of shadowing for two dentists, when i only did 110. I added wrong and sent emails to all of them.

The professional experience portion will show only 110 total, if u add them up....

WILL SCHOOLS/ADEA NOTICE THIS?

Whoa. This is really bad!!!

ADEA/Dental Schools go through your application with a fine-toothed comb! They work very hard to find discrepancies in your application to see if you are
1) Honest
2) Thorough

Something like this will definitely catch the eyes of the admissions committee.

Sorry dude.

Just to add , you're pretty much screwed for this cycle.

Good night sweet prince.

If you haven't submitted your app yet you might try rounding up a few hours here and there to make it even. 30 hours vs. 35 hours isn't that big of a difference.

how can people be so mean to this guy, this is a forum to seek help. Anyway dont worry about it too much...first of all it will appear as though you are underestimating to the admissions committee, not as bad as overestimating. One explanation could be that you were planning on doing 20 more hours, which you told your professors, but something came up and you never got around to it. Or you could be honest and you made a human mistake with the addition, maybe they will appreciate this. Its not gonna kill you but make sure if they ask you you handle it with class, part of healthcare is having poise in dealing with the unexpected

i'll assume you aren't trolling. go shadow one of the dentists for 20 more hours.

Haha, don't worry!

My dentist and I don't even know the exact hours, he just put 300-400 hours of assisting and shadowing in his letters

Pretty sure your dentist will not go like "NO HE ONLY SHADOWED FOR 110 HOURS."

He'll help you out.

at least my professors haven't really gotten to submit their letters yet....

So i quickly emailed them, telling them only 110 hours.

Hopefully they'll change it in time.

If not, i think i can just say i made a mistake in telling them all my shadow hours...

Lol i appreciate the humor. I supppose it's not D-school threatening to any serious degree

I don't think your professors are likely to mention your shadowing hours in their letters. It doesn't really relate to the relationship they built with you (unless it was a pre-dental class or something). Even if they did put it in there, and somehow an admissions committee caught it, they would almost certainly leave it be. Fretting over 20 hours difference when you've clearly shadowed for more than 100 hours isn't that big of a deal.

Don't stress about it, you're fine.

maybe you should try to become a hygienist....

UM. WHOA. EXCUSE yourself. Do not be disrespectful towards the profession of dental hygiene I worked my ass off to get to where I am and yes I will be a dentist someday, however I will never disrespect the people that will work for me and make me bundles of money. Get your head out of your ass.

On another note I would just try rounding your hours up since you informed all of your professors already you 1) dont want to be completely unpofessional and confuse them and 2) it's not like you'll be forging 1000 hours here, you'll be alright.

Didn't mean to offend, I was being sarcastic in the sense that the OP is making mountains out of molehills because this issue isn't really that big of a problem. Furthermore, I was "busting his or her chops" (also known as "pulling his or her leg") by saying that he or she should think about hygienist school as they are known to be easier to get into than dental school and one doesn't need to be as competitive (academically) to become a hygienist. It's too bad that you were offended, hope that clears things. 🙂
