Hi guys!

I am planning to attend AIC this fall, but am completely unfamiliar with the area (Springfield, MA). I am moving from Seattle and haven't had a chance to visit yet, so can anyone recommend safe areas/apartments? Any help would be much appreciated!

Just saw your ad. Are you interested in any particular housing ie apartment, condo, house? What is your price range? I am from the area and know some rentals that might be coming available. Do you have any OT students that will be moving in with you or coming from Seatle? The ones that I know of are furnished, not pets, are nice and close to the college. I would suggest not to find right next to or near the college because of the crime.

Regarding the crime, I'm thinking of AIC student housing near the campus. Do you know if that area/location is safe because it is operated by AIC? Thanks.

Hey!
I'm also attending AIC this fall for the OT program and am looking for a room mate to rent an apartment with this August! Contact me if you're interested 🙂 Would love a room-mate that goes to the same school so we can carpool!

Congrats, can't wait to meet you! Where are you coming from? I actually already got an apartment in Longmeadow and will be living by myself for the first year at least until I get to know people better. If you contact Dr. Dow-Royer I'm sure she could pair you with other students who may want a roommate? Send me a personal message if you want to talk!

Hi everyone I know it's been almost a year now I won't to know how your experience at AIC is like as at now and do you remember how you interview went. Thanks

Hi otlady! Thus far, I'm having an excellent experience at AIC. The program is very well structured with a caring and dedicated OT faculty. Even though it's only my second semester, I can already see how they are laying the foundation for us to be successful OT's. It's a lot of work, but with good time management you will do well. The interview process was very relaxed and conversational. There were no trick questions, just straight forward ones to get a feel of who you are, and how you will manage the program. I practiced with a friend and that was helpful. Good Luck!

Hi All,

I recently found out that I am accepted to MSOT program at Springfield, and this is my first acceptance! 😀 My interview at AIC is tomorrow so I am going to check out both places, and I am still waiting to hear back from Bay Path. Since these colleges are located close to each other, I am looking for decent housing in the area. Can anyone offer some suggestions on an area, or specific housing, or even a website? Thanks in advance!

hi i just got accepted to AIC and was just wondering how safe is the area is? I read there was a lot of crime reported at AIC. I'm also glad to hear you feel like the program itself is good, i saw the pass rates were low. Any advice Im a little confused on my choice of grad school

Where did you get this info? And, I thought they have a good NBCOT rate, according to their website. I really need good info regarding anything about AIC, BPC, and Springfield College, and the area since I need to make a decision soon!

It is important to understand Springfield has some very nice areas and some fairly dicey areas. This is not unlike any post industrial manufacturing city in New England. On the border between Longmeadow (where Bay Path is) and Springfield is the largest urban park in the region at over 700 acres, Forest Park. There is a correlation between housing prices and perceived safety. I would stay away from areas with high concentrations of reported crime. You can get crime statistics by zip code. Longmeadow is a suburb, a very quaint New England town. There is not much going on there after dark, for good or ill. Google street view allows you to explore streets from afar. I took a very nice virtual stroll through the Bay Path Campus utilizing that application.

Springfield is not the city it once was. It is no Detroit but it is on par with Worcester MA on the grit scale. There are some truly beautiful old houses and some really awful ramshackle dwellings in the city limits.
If you have not been to the area, it is a good idea to visit before you enroll. Good luck.

Gemut,

I'm out of state and have no idea what the house renting price range is around baypath.
I'm looking for the cheapest rent possible, but not in a high crime area. Although, i wouldn't think there would be any higher crime rate around longmeadow than L.A., which is where i'm coming from...😀

what's a 1 bedroom apt $$$ in avg. ??
Thank you~

It be best for you to contact your school and see if any other students are looking for housing so you can cut down on living costs. Areas like Agawam, East longmeadow, forest park area of Springfield, long meadow ($$$), west Springfield are areas to check out. I came from out of state and was not familiar with the area at all and ended up finding my place off of craiglists (sounds sketchy I know I was nervous about it too) but found am really nice place. A lot of other students I know used this route too. Best of luck

A room in a shared house or apartment $500-$600, a studio or 1 bedroom $750-$850 and a two bedroom$1000+ These are ballpark figures. Room rentals around Bay Path seem to be in the $500 range on craigslist these days but that may jump closer to school start date. If you are tenacious in your sleuthing, you might find a better deal.

Where do you want to live? are you looking for a share or a studio?

I have not heard from Bay Path or AIC, and I don't think I will receive good news. I am probably attending Springfield College and have visited the town twice. I really liked Longmeadow but couldn't find any apartments there. Any other websites, besides Craiglists?

I have a question for you all which program is better Springfield College or Bay Path College?
All I know is that overall Bay Path is about $20,000 cheaper.

Did you get accepted into Springfield College as well? Bay Path has a MOT program, with a theory-based curriculum. Springfield College has a good reputation for their program for many years and it is a MSOT program, with more hands-on curriculum. I heard MSOT prepares well for NBCOTE. Even though Bay Path is cheaper and shorter than Springfield College, I am leaning towards Springfield. They are changing their curriculum to increase their passing rate, and they also have a flexible part-time and full-time program. Let me know what you decide.

Yes, I got into both programs. Thanks for the helpful info mgOT. I just want to clarify on which school is changing their curriculum to increase passing rate of the nbcot exam?

At the Accepted Students Day in Springfield College, Dr. Post said they are changing the curriculum to increase their passing rate. Were you at the Accepted Students Day at the beginning of the month? Are you in their FB group? I did not hear from Bay Path yet, but still exploring.

Hi congrats! I got accepted to Bay Path and Springfield as well! I'm having trouble deciding which one to pick did you decide?

Has anyone figured out what they're doing for housing/looking for a roommate?!

Hello Everyone,

I just got my acceptance to AIC today for the Fall 2013 semester. I also was award a $32,000 scholarship ($8,000/year). I am very excited but nervous about moving to the Springfield area. Is it better to dorm at AIC or rent outside of the school?

Hi guys, I know this is an older forum, but I was wondering if anyone who attends Springfield could share any info about housing options? I am looking at applying for the off-campus campus owned apartments. Does anyone know what they are like/ live in those? There are 3 to choose from & I did not see these when I visited last summer, so I was curious! OR is it better to find other housing options off campus? Any input is appreciated! Thanks 🙂

Jake Rosen can you tell me more about the furnished apartments? Thanks. I will be attending Bay Path

Has anyone heard anything from this cycle's American International College yet? I applied back in January and my status says complete with all documents submitted but have not heard anything thus far.

I applied and also haven't heard anything. Their deadline was April 1 and maybe they are delayed in giving decisions like bay path and Springfield. i did see on another thread that people heard as late as June so maybe there is there a bit of a wait.

I will be attending AIC this fall, in search of housing right now. If anyone has any off-campus housing info, let me know!

HEY! I'm currently looking for off campus housing as well did you find out any information?

Don't recommend in living in area by AIC. It is very dangerous. Lots of shootout. So be careful.

I am attending Bay Path in the fall, and am going next month to look for apartments. Do you have any recommendations or places to avoid? I've been mainly looking into Agawam or Holyoke.

@Paris_Pinky & @ot1992 I ended up attending Bay Path instead of Springfield, so I don't know about the Springfield housing. I live in a nice apartment complex on the border of Longmeadow & Springfield about 10mins from our campus, but I'm not sure of anything in Agawam or Holyoke. Feel free to PM me if you want any more info!

I am a 22 year old guy anyone want to room up on campus or get a place off campus. PM me if interested. Thanks!
