Hello!
I have a question that I hope can be answered here. I am a second year dental student really interested in the Air Force, however I also have a great interest in the National Health Service Corps. I recently put my application into the NHSC, and if I am not selected for a scholarship I would ideally like to do the Air Force HPSP.

My problem is this: with the NHSC, they don't notify us until September 30th as to whether or not we receive the scholarship. If I find out that I am not selected, will this be beyond the deadline of the 3 year Air Force HPSP? I am hoping to do a 3 year program as I am starting my sophomore year. Is it possible to put my application in for the HPSP and just wait to accept until when I find out about the NHSC?

Thanks for your help!

Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but I believe all of the 3-year scholarship applicants applied in October and were selected back in February.

It's now June, and if you are already starting D2, you're probably too late in the game. Often, if there's any, students apply for 3yr HPSP as early as beginning of D1. The application process could be very long, and even if you get it, it may not cover the first semester of D2, ending up w/ 2.5 yrs of tuition covered, but still have to serve 3 years. Good luck with the NHSC, though, I heard the program is extremely competitive, something like 1:12.
