Hello,

I'm leaving for an ADT and I am trying to workout my budget. I had a couple of questions.

First, my orders say "per diem $785". Is this how much I am approved for to pay for billeting? Is this also to pay for meals? Or am I supposed to pay for my own meals? Also, what if you don't use the full $785?

Second, there is a form on the AFIT website for family separation allowance. Has anyone gotten this while being on an ADT? How much do you get?

Thanks for any help you can give me!

I am not air force, but I will take a stab.

1. Per diem is not billeting in the army, and I assume not in the air force either. Per diem covers food and daily costs

2. I don't think you get family seperation on ADT's, had some friends complaining about that, but maybe you do...sorry I can't help more.

where ya going?

Ok. Generally the amount is their estimate of how much it will cost you. Each city, base, or other geographic subdivision has per diem amounts and maximum lodging costs associated with it.

Check out https://secureapp2.hqda.pentagon.mil/perdiem/perdiemrates.html

Maximum per diem equals maximum lodging costs, plus meal cost, plus incidentals cost. The only amount that will vary on your travel voucher will be the lodging cost, because you might not spend the maximum. You can't spend more than the maximum lodging, it won't be reimbursed. That's not easy to do, usually, especially if you're used to living as a student.

Any questions, let me know. I travel pretty regularly.

Thanks for the info!
