Today is the final day for submitting my secondary to UA-Phoenix. After checking all of my essays one last time (I finished them a week ago and let them sit to make sure I didn't want to make any changes), I made my changes and clicked "save." Upon doing so, I get a message "Ajax call failed," and the essays won't save!

Anyone know how to fix this? Any recommendations in the event that a fix cannot be found?

Your best bet would be to contact AMCAS, as this is a problem on their end or someone in UA Phoenix.

Also take a screenshot of the error ASAP with the mouse hovering on the clock on the bottom right, so that it also gives you a Monday, Day and Year timestamp. If bad comes to worse, you can always use that as documentation to show UA Phoenix that you were unable to submit you essay on time because of a technical error.

Thanks! I have the essays saved in Notepad format and can paste them in Word if necessary later.

I took a picture and also saved a screenshot of the error on the page with my completed essays and with the day/date/time stamp showing in the lower right corner. Hopefully, this will help when I call them on Tuesday (no one answered today, and I doubt that they will on Labor Day either.

I logged out of the UA site and when I logged back in, I noted at the bottom of the screen that their new system can't handle apostrophes or dashes (a great error when there's a dash in your school name). So, after rewriting my essays to eliminate all possessive nouns (and fixing the subsequent awkwardness of the wording), I eliminated the error.

Ajax (also AJAX; pronounced /ˈeɪdʒæks/; an acronym for asynchronous JavaScript and XML) is a group of interrelated web development methods used on the client-side to create interactive web applications. With Ajax, web applications can send data to, and retrieve data from, a server asynchronously (in the background) without interfering with the display and behavior of the existing page. Data is usually retrieved using the XMLHttpRequest object. Despite the name, the use of XML is not needed (JSON is often used instead), and the requests don't need to be asynchronous.

Blame the idiots in IT.

Develop better document-saving habits.

MCAT question:

Is the Ajax failure due to:

A. Mostly Client-side failure
B. Mostly Server-side failure
C. Mostly ISP-related / packet transmission failure
D. Mostly a problem in between the chair and the desk

This was the problem for me.

I had an apostrophe in one of my essays. I would push save and it would come up with the AJAX error message. I looked through my essays and found that the apostrophe was totally screwed up (instead of just being ' it was now $*&^#*$'%&( or something ridiculous)

I found that error, changed the word, and it saved fine.

Congrats on fixing the problem too

Same happened to me. Experiment with apostrophes and other punctuation, and remove it if necessary. If you read through the Phoenix thread (http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=829170&page=2) you will find the solution to the Ajax call failed problem. 🙂

Edit: Nvm, I see you already fixed it. 🙂
