Not trying to be greedy, but UAB could potentially be half the price of Louisville or Indiana. Thanks.

Take Care.

Do y'all know of anyone being accepted to Alabama-Birmingham yet? Thanks.

I haven't heard anything yet either...hung around the mailbox today waiting for my "thanks but no thanks" letter and it didnt come, so i suppose thats a good thing...good luck to everyone and remember to post if you do hear something

Not sure if this applies to any of you all, but I called UAB last week and the woman I spoke to said that they had a ton of out of state applications this year to sort through. I honestly don't expect anything from them though. And I never heard from UF... but again, another school I wasn't counting on hearing from

Did you interview at UAB yet? When I interviewed, it seemed like half our interview group was out of state (like me), which was a little suprising because in the past theyve only admitted a couple out of state students each year. I guess I kinda have two strikes against me as I'm both out of state and applying a year early, so I'm not really expecting to hear anything good from them.

I spoke to a friend of mine in D-school at UAB yesterday and he told me that he got his letter (2 years ago) on the 4th and it was postmarked on the 1st. He was an AL resident though. I would assume they still notify by mail. I am an AL resident and I have not heard of anyone getting accepted as of yet. If I do. I will let you all know. Cheers.

Jake

Thanks, Jacob. It seems like UAB is one of the few schools that's still a mystery as to acceptances.

Wouldn't the Texas schools you applied to be cheaper than UAB?

Anyone heard from UAB yet? I'm beginning to wonder if they've mailed acceptances yet...

i still haven't heard from them either...not even a "no thanks". when i interviewed everyone that interviewed with me was from out of state. they head guy came to speak at UGA and told us that if you're out of state and get an interview then that says they're looking at you seriously, but that's all the info i've got for now.

Any news from Birmingham? It's a little odd that noone here has heard anything yet, although it does seem like most of the SDNers who applied are out of staters.

Last year Dr. Filler from UAB personally called me on Dec 1 and I got the official letter about 3 days later. I know for a fact they will not tell you over the phone if your are in or not.

UABs cost is quite unique for two reasons. First their out of state tuition is Very low and on top of that after year 1 you are automatically considered in state which is among the cheapest in the nation. For me to go to UAB would have been about 12K more total over the course of 4 years and a large majority of this cost is because UAB makes you buy your instruments versus borrowing at MCG.

Congratulations, LMav!!

Are you planning on attending UAB?

Besides LMav has anyone else heard anything from UAB. I got an email from Cindy Edwards stating that they meet every Wed. and decide at that time to mail out any additional acceptances. Is LMav out of state? If so has anyone in state heard yet. Thanks

yeah, i'm also wondering if LMav is from alabama or not. i was thinking that maybe they weren't contacting out of staters until they got the finances straightened out for out of state tuition. just a thought.

Yes, UAB is my first choice.

I am a resident and I know a couple of other instate students who have received their acceptances from UAB.

Someone in my MCG interview group on Sept. 27th had already been rejected. But still nothing for me. Not even an interview.

So, where is really your top choice?? If you are from TX, either of those schools could turn out very cheap for you.

I'd say at this point, UT-Houston & UAB are neck-and-neck on my decision list. The big difference: my wife has family in Houston & I have family in Alabama.

Don't get me wrong, I love Houston and have already sent in my deposit, but if Alabama came through with an acceptance, I would definitely have to consider it.

A big part of my reasoning has to do with where I hope our family ends up AFTER dental school. I don't know if I can see us staying in Houston, but Birmingham would definitely be a possibility where I'd set up a practice.

I spoke with Cindy Edwards at UAB who said I didn't make the first round but definitely not out of the running. She told me (like everyone else) that the out-of-state pool was VERY COMPETITIVE. I'll just have to wait and see.
