I know this was posted a while ago i just cant find the post I was wondering if anyone knew about the offer in Alaska that if you work there for 3 years as a pharmacist you have a million $ contract .... I was just wondering if this was true and if anyone had any information on this ..

It was in the Pharmacy forum, about 3-4 months ago I think, maybe longer.

I highly doubt that there is a million dollar contract. I did both of my pharmacy shadowing experiences in Alaska and none of the pharmacists I talked to said anything about this. You can do a contract with Native Health Services, but there are a lot of negatives (Good ol' boys mentality as well as uniform requirements and working in the bush) and you do get paid well, but not much more than you would get if you just worked somewhere else.

hey im working as a pharm tech here in alaska and also taking my prerequisites here in Alaska as well....so far I've never heard of any offers like that anywhere, but I do know that they are offering pharmacists to work out in Juneau(kind of in the boonies) and if you do take the offer you get an 100,000 dollar bonus, but you have to work there for 3 years. They'll have for airfare and such, but that's the closest thing I've heard. Too bad there isnt any pharm schools out here in Alaska.

Maybe because it's in the middle of nowhere and it's freezing up in alaska? Hm..just a thought. I mean, they wouldn't give such a great offer if there is a lot of people willing to live in Alaska.

What's wrong with Alaska. Juneau is nice it is an island and the state capital. Alaska has great mountains and camping. It is one of the most natural states that are left! It would be great to live there for three years!

maybe all the snow and very low temps? It would be beautiful, but I don't think many people want to freeze.

Yea, Alaska is gorgeous and if I have a chance I would definitely VISIT/VACATION there, but not live there. I can't imagine the heating and gas bills i'd get there.

yeah ppl's perception of alaska is sooo off of what alaska really is. Yeah there is snow..but there is snow also in wisconsin, New york, and anywhere else in the northern states and that general area. There is not snow year round. In the summer its absolutely awesome because the sun goes down around 11-12 at night, meaning you can play outdoors all day long. But alas during the winter you make up for it. You should def check us out in your lifetime.

Alaskan winters are mild compared to Minnesota winters. Alaska is actually a great place to be in health care since there are more opportunities for leadership. There's also a great residency program in oncology for pharmD's at Anchorage's Providence Hospital.

Like someone already said, I would absolutely love to go there for vacation, but 3 years to too long. If it was only 1 year, it would be much better.

Apparently there is a time of year with barely any sunlight.

With my luck, if I went I'd end up in that city that keeps falling into the ocean and they've had to rebuild 3 times.

Do they have cruise ship pharmacists?
