I have an interview at Albany and would LOVE to learn about the school/interviewers. Did you like the school, faculty, students, etc? Was the interview pretty relaxed or not? THANKS!
Several SDNers, including me, interviewed there in January. If you do a search for Albany interview, you'll find lots of discussion about it. Sorry, it's late, and I don't feel like typing it all over again. Here's a thread that won't come up with that search in which I discussed my interviews there. As I recall some of us felt the interviews were pretty relaxed (I was in that camp -- but I prepped pretty strenuously for my interviews), and others did not. Best of luck with your interview.
Students: All were nice. When I asked them what type of undergrad they attended (public/private), all said private. I guess they see nothing wrong with paying such high tuition since they are used to it.
Interview: one casual, one stressful
Area: pretty nice. You can get housing right next to the hospital (I'm talking reeeeealy close).
Judgement of the admission committee: poor (you can guess their decision )
They'll tell you that they don't use your stance on ethical questions in thier decision, but I don't buy it. Remember, you are in the NORTH...a typically liberal area...so use caution if your opinions are more conservative. I already had an acceptance, so I really didn't care if the beliefs of my interviewer and myself clashed. Take it or leave it, right? Just a warning.
i was there in november...small city, old and depressing in my opinion...
had two basic science interviewers ask lots of ethical questions that i bet you they don't even have an answer to...these questions are pointless and i sort of ended the interview with both guys after i answered a few BS questions...i said "well i'm glad to have an opportunity to come here and thank you for your time"...they have no idea on how to get to know an interviewee, they just wanted see my stance on moral issues that i may never encounter in my career...it was also funny how these questions came from 2 basic science faculties too
people were very nice though...
interestingly, to my shock they canned me i knew i wasn;t gonna be happy there...
