Did anyone get a phone call from Albany Medical College today? The message was very vague, but I?m hoping it was for an interview invite. I guess I?ll have to wait until Monday. This process is doing wonders for my patience. 😉

Can you transcribe the message?

did you guys get something in the mail from albany recently, like a brochure for their school, in a weird kind of personalized manilla folder with your name on it? when i got that i thought it was an interview invite, but i guess it was just information about their school.

Yes, I did. I think everyone who applied there gets this. I was excited too, thinking it was an interview invite. This process is depleting my endorphin reserves. 😉

Paraphrasing: Hello GATORgrad, this is so and so form Albany Medical College. Please give me a call back at blah, blah, and blah. I?ll be at the college until blah, blah, blah. If you are unable to reach me by blah blah blah blah, I?ll be here from blah, blah, and blah on Monday. Have a nice weekend. Maybe she was calling to inform me that my file was missing something. Although I?m hoping it was for an interview invite. I?ll keep you updated.

I spoke to their admissions personel not too long ago. They told me that they send interview invites by e-mail. I could be wrong too, and I hope this will be good news for you.

Well I promised I?d follow up. I just finished scheduling an interview with the admissions coordinator from Albany Med. So for those of you who applied to Albany Medical College, apparently you can receive an interview invite via e-mail or phone. Good luck all. 👍

I received the information packet and was looking through it. Their tuition from 03-04 was almost 40K. God, that's a lot of money.

would you who received invites mind posting your stats and perhaps a little about what you've done (research, volunteer, etc)? just to give me/us a little to "compare." i really want to interview at albany, i love the area, and i'd like to see if i'm even in the running.
thanks!

Hi guys! congrats for those of you that already got interviews. And for those being so patient, just want to let you know that the admissions committee is VERY backed up this year (more so than last year) so hang in there. Things might be delayed but it'll come around. I just started here as a 1st year and I absolutely love the program. It is a very unique program they offer and the classes are so diverse. I almost wasn't gonna move out here (I'm from sunny California) but I gave it a try and find it to be so worth it! Hopefully I'll meet some of y'all at your interview!

Good Luck! 😀

The folder thing was really strange! I kept looking for something in it that gave a date for an interview. Then I saw the part about "future physician...spend 4 years at AMC". That really excited me in my overly stressed state, and I dreamt that perhaps I had miraculously been accepted without an interview. Hey, stranger things have happened!

I got that packet a month ago but apparently it doesn't mean much (except that it tells you a lot more about their school). I was hoping to interview there but so far no invite.

If i remember from my interview, they wait until the end of their fall interview cycle to start sending out the emails. I interviewed in mid October and they told us we were unfortunate ones who would have to wait two months to hear back. I'm thinking after turkey day, first week of Dec maybe?

yep, I actually just got back from my interview there, so I have this info fresh in my mind. They indicated that they will start issuing acceptances in the first week of December. They also said they interview ~700 and accept about half of those interviewed.

Would you mind telling us about your interview please?

sure...it went pretty much as I expected from SDN interview feedback. Mostly conversational, but I was expected to ask a LOT of questions (not really my strong point). There were also a few ethical scenerios. Other than that, it started a little late, and I was early, so I sat around for quite awhile. The other interviewees were nice, though, so we entertained ourselves. We had lunch (actually pretty good food) in this awesome conference room and had a decent tour by 2 second years.
Their curriculum is interesting--it's system-based, and they do anatomy for the entire 1st year. They dissect parts of the body as they get to them, and anatomy is incorporated into their other exams, so it's not as intense as most anatomy classes (although it must be tough to have neverending anatomy during the 1st year). Clinical years seem pretty good--they serve a large area in eastern NY and surrounding states, so they get a lot of interesting cases and Level 1 trauma. They seemed to be particularly strong in Pediatrics.
Overall I was impressed, Albany hadn't been one of my top choices but it's really moved up a few notches since my visit. But my goodness their tuition is steep. Cost of living in the area is cheap, so that makes it a little better.

I am scheduled to interview there in Jan, but I have to change the date. Anyone have the link to the status page. When updating my email application, I erased all my old emails. Ouch.

You may need to call them to get your PIN number unless you wrote that down.
