I recently received my interview invite at Einstein for January. I know that they usually take about half their instate interviewees. I was wondering if my chances are significantly lower because I guess I am in the second batch. I don't think I had finished my applications early enough for the first batch though. What do you guys think?

Applied Interviewed Accepted Enrolled
Total: 5,757 1,526 576 180
In-state: 1,445 477 202 84
Out-of-state: 4,312 1,049 374 96

Thanks.

You are in the second batch. The first batch of acceptances is on Jan 15ish. It really is a moot point to think about it. Just go to the interview, do your best, and wait. Good luck with the interview. Its really relaxed and conversational. Great school.

Don't worry too much. There are plenty of people here who got in second batch or later. Einstein interviews are really nice as said above, and our interviewers tend to place a lot of importance on personality (something they just observe, not something they ask you about)

Hi Rendar5,

I just interviewed at AECOM on Monday, while you first years were taking a test i think. How far is the nearest supermarket from the school? I also didn't see any Italian restaurants on Morris Ave. Are they any good cost/quality wise?

Patricia's is fantastic if you want an Italian restaurant. Good prices, but only cause you're in the Bronx. 10-13 for dinner. cheap lunches if you get certain things, though. 7 minute walk. I like Emilio's for pizza, which is up just a bit further. closer is Ann Clair's which is a fantastic deli. I haven't really been to other places, but if you just wander around Morris Park, Williamsbridge, and Eastchester, you'll see a bunch of Italian places. (But as far as I'm concerned, those are the major ones).

There's a pathmark right down eastchester. 3-5 minute walk. I think their produce sucks, but they're good for most other purposes. There's a Big Deal supermarket up Morris Park like 10 minutes (if you can drive that's easy), which has really good bread. There's a good butcher nearby if you want to avoid getting meat at supermarket's (a treat for me since i never had a butcher where I used to live and like to cook).

I was wondering how those of you have been to SUNY downstate and Albert Einstein would say the neighborhoods compare. Downstate seemed a tad bit scarry to say the least and people at my interview were saying Einstein is the same? ANy truth to that?

they seemed the same. i don't think either one is any more "scarier" than the other, necessarily.

They look the same at first glance, but Einstein is definitely the safer more upscale of the two neighborhoods. You don't notice that until you get off Morris Park and Eastchester. I wouldn't be too scared of downstate personally, but it isn't in a great neighborhood.

It's not NYC, but you're talking about a 3:1 ratio of acceptance to spot taken. Local in-stater's are a 2:1 ratio, and for in-staters, there's like 12 NY schools. That doesn't sound like anything bad to me.

I just get suprised really easily.

Hey, for those of you who received invites, when were you complete? did they email the invite? If so, did your Yahoo mail file it in the bulk folder?

I just noticed that many of my real emails were being sent to my bulk. I'm a bit paranoid that this might have happened with an interview invite! I've called all the other schools, but AECOM says explicitly not to call the office to check on status......

Thanks for your help,
Soleil

The invite comes from Margaret Casal, so if you've gotten an e-mail from her with the subject INTERVIEW INVITATION, then that's it.

Yes, Hotmail filed it in the junk mail folder, but I've been checking it just as regularly as the inbox, so it was fine. I was complete 10/12 and got the invite on 11/3.

G'luck.
