I am confused by how alcohol enhances TG synthesis. one of mechanism according to goljan RR is "alcohol increases mobilization of FA from TG stores in adipose tissue by activating HSL, which hydrolyzes TG into FA and glycerol". It seems to me that alcohol is synthesizing TG by breaking down the TG in adipose, which doesn't make sense to me. why would it break down what it is trying to synthesis?

From what I remember, it is the abundance of acetyl CoA that you get from alcohol metabolism and the fact that the production of the acetyl CoA costs NAD+. This means that the only route for the acetyl CoA is TG synthesis (and ketone bodies)
