Alcohol and micro, macro, normocytic anemia

It seems one can get micro (sideroblastic anemia), macro (via poor nutrition, direct tox on the bone marrow), and normocytic anemia (if you get variceal bleeds) from alocholism, but out of the micro and macro anemia, which one would predominate in which situation? I don't think RDW is up for alcoholism according to Goljan... so one of the anemias has to win out.

I have only ever had macrocytic come up in UWorld. It's always been....

alcoholic comes into ER --> folate or Vit B12 def, depending on presence of neuro sx --> macrocytic (megaloblastic) anemia with hyperseg neutrophils
