Does anyone know what type of alcohol you're supposed to use in the alcohol lamp? i need to practice waxing some teeth over the weekend. I remember my profs specifically said not to use "regular" alcohol since it would start a fire. The alcholol in my lamp (at home) has evaporated since hte last time I used it and I forgot to get more from the stash at school. So... does anyone know?

You are supposed to use denatured alcohol. This can be found in the "Paint" area of most stores, e.g. Wal Mart, Home Depot.

We use the same burners in our sim-lab that I used throughout 3 years of research in undergrad. Although I haven't had to fill my sim-lab burner, I had filled my undergraduate burner (used in our hood) well over 500 times and I always used regular alcohol.

Don't know if this helps you at all.

Just use a blow torch like I did last semester...seriously it works perfect.

Actually, specifically it's supposed to be denatured ethanol. And like it was previously mentioned before, you can find it in the paint thinner section at home depot.

I've used plain ol' ethanol in alcohol lamps before, but I must say I do prefer the butane blowtorch. Something about the blue flame and the fffwhooshing sound captivates me. Another bonus is the adjustable flame strength. I can't wait to learn how to weld... 😍

Just start a mini-campfire... that way you can enjoy roasted weenies and marshmallows while you wax your tooth!

thanks a lot... guess I'll go get some ethanol

or you can use bacardi 151 it's a little over 70% alcohol, the good thing about it is that if you mess up you can relieve your stress by taking a shot.
