Aldol Condensation

We use a base (LDA or NaOH) to remove the alpha hydrogen which makes the alpha carbon negatively charged and then this attacks the carbonyl carbon of the other molecule since its partially positive due to dipole of oxygen. When you attack the carbonyl carbon electrons jump onto oxygen forming a tetrahedral intermediate and then we protonate the O- with H20 then we can eliminate the OH with heat to form an alpha -beta double bond. Note: there must be alpha hydrogens available to do an aldol condensation.
Can some one please explain in one line what adol condensation do? i seem to struggle with this question every time it appears on OG destroyer.
