All you pharmacy technicians,
when u started your job, did u guys already had ur pharmacy tech certificate or licence??
Or You got the license after working at certain retail pharmacy stores??

Im a Walgreens tech and they paid for my certification. If you do not work for a retail store who will pay I think you can pay $100 to take it. It was really easy

I had my license before I started working as a tech. I got my certification about six months or so after that. I took it on my own without the company paying for it. The pharmacy I was working at cut my hours, so I was going to apply somewhere else as a certified tech. Turns out, after I got my certification, a full time girl quit and I was able to take her hours.

got it afterwards

had mine when started. Job sucks right b/c i am mostly assigned to do the register. 🙁

I feel your pain buddy...
I am on the bottom of the totem pole and guess what I get to do when it is insanely busy. Well, I have mastered the register.

In PA, there is no requirement for tech. certification/license. Yeah, pretty scary. Though I am a licensed intern now after working a couple of months with zero credentials.

I got my certification after about three months.

I have been working at CVS for almost two years. I was started as a Pharmacy Service Associate and received the Technician raise a few months later.

Oddly enough, I never had to take any training to become CVS certified, it was just granted to me because I learned as I worked. Now my store requires PSAs to spend time with the tech trainer before they are granted that title.

I'm registering to take the PTCE exam in August. After looking over the study book CVS gave me, it doesn't seem too difficult. Hopefully there aren't many surprises.

I started my job at Rite Aid. It wasn't until June 2007, that all Maryland techs are required to be certified. I was already Rite Aid certified before that since I've been working there for 2 years.

Some places such as CVS and Rite Aid pay you for taking classes and taking the test. Others, such as Giant, asks you take classes and the PTCB on your own I believe? Without certification, you're not even allowed to work behind the counter. Which, for cases like CVS and Rite Aid, you can't work in the pharmacy at all (Giant has a separation for the registers and the pharmacy, so it's ok).
