Did you take MCAT? Score? Yes, I took the MCAT right before the completion if the program. If you really want to know what I got, you can PM me and I will tell you.

Career changer or academic enhancer? Career changer.

In state or out of state applicant? Out of state

Any other helpful comments/advice? Like Braluk said, the "soft" factors like ECs and LORs are really important. If you are lacking in any one area, try to make up for it in another. Don't get discouraged or stressed out - if you want it badly enough, you will get it.

Any other helpful comments/advice? I'm at the beginning of this process, just about to attend in the fall. I think its really important to go check out programs in person, and speak with people. Not only do you make the connection, but you can get a sense of what your experience would be.

To where did you get rejected? None (only applied to Penn)

Undergrad cumulative GPA? Science GPA? 3.3, 3.2 BCPM

Career changer or academic enhancer? Career changer, graduated 10 years ago

In state or out of state applicant? In state

Any other helpful comments/advice? I am a professional modern dancer (soon retiring) and I know that this really helped my application. It was all Dr. Hunter talked about in the entrance interview. She said they like to accept people into their program who have either a background in the arts or in sports. I was told that two Julliard graduates are also in that program. This doesn't mean that this program is filled with only artists and athletes, but apparently it helps!

To where did you get accepted? UConn, Yale, Hunter, Columbia, Manhattanville

To where did you get rejected? NYU

Undergrad cumulative GPA? Science GPA? 3.67/3.78

Did you take MCAT? Score? No

Career changer or academic enhancer? Career changer

In state or out of state applicant? CT resident

Some more random stats:
One year of postbac classes completed a la carte at local college (general chem and bio, 4.0 GPA).
Some volunteer experience at local hospital and research facility.
3 post-grad certificates in various kinds of alternative medicine.
Lots of extracurriculars in undergrad, non-science major.
Sent out 4 LOR (most programs asked for only two).

Any other helpful comments/advice?
Research the SDN archives in depth on the programs you are interested in--there is some really useful information buried on here (especially on the UConn and Columbia programs). Pick the one that will give you the greatest shot at getting into a med school--ie, programs with great track records or linkages. Don't assume an "Ivy League" school has a better postbac. You don't want to contribute to that kind of elitist BS anyways. When you're done with the app process, come back here and post your stats, because this kind of info is really helpful for everyone. Thanks, dancingdoctor!

I agree with the ivyleague versus postbac quality. There is a thread on someone who was debating whether to go to Yale Postbac (cause of the name recognition) or to the Uconn. Uconn in a heartbeat, it has a much better postbac. I wish i had known about SDN when i started my UG rather then durign the end of it. 🙁

thanks guys for your input-- keep them coming!

Any other helpful comments/advice? Apply early, and have LORs ready. Research the programs you're interested in, and provide that info to your letter writers. Be proactive and call/email the admission office to find important dates i.e. when application period begins and to check on your application status. When deciding which program to attend, use your resources - visit, if possible and ask to meet with the program director. Talk/email current students in the program. Some things to look at: class size, curriculum, med school admission stats.

Any other helpful comments/advice? Some of these programs are horrible with communication (coughGeorgetowncough), and others take forever to get back to you. I applied in late January, and was accepted to Tulane mid-Feb, but I only just heard back from Drexel two weeks ago. Patience and persistence are key; make sure they have everything they need from you and apply early! Spots fill up quickly, especially after med schools have finished filling up their classes. The deadlines are late, but if you can just go ahead and apply in Jan/Feb.
