Hi guys, I have narrowed down my choices to OCPM and Scholl. I have to sen din my enrollment deposit really soon to whichever school i choose but i am completely torn. Can you guys help me?

One of my major concerns is getting an externship and especially a residency in Boston. WHich school can prepare me for this. I don't know what externship programs and residency programs look for in a candidate but I am determined to return to boston. Also, I think i am interested in diabetic wound care and orthopedics.

So please be honest and let give me any advice.

Thanks so much.

Any school will "prepare you", but a lot of it relies on you preparing yourself. Anyone from any school can and will extern at the programs in Boston (or anywhere else). For the most part it depends on the individual. Study hard, work hard and learn as much as you can. No one should choose a school for you, that should be something you decide for yourself. You need to seriously ask your self what school is best for YOU.

Also, I think many people will tell you don't necessarily choose a residency on location, but on the quality of training you will receive there. That may mean doing a residency in a place you don't necessarily like for a few years, THEN moving to where every you would like. If you get the right training first, you can go anywhere you want. (If you are really into a certain program, eventually you will be able to call them up and visit, etc)

DPMstudent is right, any of the schools can prepare you for what's next. Look at both schools and ask yourself where you would feel the most comfortable at, and which one you feel will prepare you the best. No one school is best for everyone (I sweat a lot, so Barry and AZPod got disqualified) and I'm hesitant about crowded city areas (there goes NYCPM and Temple). Just kidding, but seriously I could make a million arguments for Scholl, just like DPMstudent can make a million for OCPM, the fact of the matter is, we're just two people posting on a forum who go to those schools. We most likely chose our schools for different reasons and our reasons are different from yours.

He's also right in that you should do your residency where you'll get the best training, not necessarily where you want to practice. That being said, the following link has information about Boston and Massachusetts residency programs:
http://www.casprcrip.org/html/casprcrip/directory.asp
From what I see, Scholl had two students go into those programs last year, one at Cambridge Health Alliance and the other at Beth Israel Deaconess Med. Ctr.

Hope this helps.
