Hey everyone. I am sending in my application on Monday and I set up 44 schools to apply to. I know its crazy but my cores are not to par so i want all the chances I can get. My Dat scores were 18AA, 19TS, 17 PAT and I have a 3.3 gpa. I am a New York State Resident and I wanted to post up all the schools I'm applying too and I would appreciate if anyone can go over the list and tell me some places where I might get in or some places that I should not be applying to (because they dont except out of state residents etc...) Thank you sooooo much everyone!

I know its expensive but I will do anything to get in to any of these schools especiall ones in NY. Thanks 🙂

damn!!!!!!!!!!!! gooood luck, are you submitting it this monday? I would get it in today, because a new AADSAS mailing goes out every monday, you want to avoid having it go out the week following!

youre insane. god those scores arent even that bad. and applying to all those schools is probably going to make adcoms less enthusiastic to invite you for an interview.. makes you seem desperate and uninterested in a specific school

shorten the list to 15 at most...

I'd seriously consider revising that list. You have picked a lot of state schools which arent very friendly to out-of-staters. check out predents/buy that aadsas book. you're literally throwing money away...

I concur. I only applied to < 7 schools. I know that is on the low side, but when you know where you want to go and when you know that it is all you can really afford then that is pretty much what you do. My parents have always paid for practically everything and I feel as if I should take this responsibility because my parents are not wealthy, but have worked very hard long hours their entire lives so that my siblings and I don't have to worry about money. When you see parents struggle, it makes you want to do as much as you can for them in return.

I would go with 15 or even 20... but 44 schools. I am curious to know how this will come over with adcoms

^ think about this post, very good point. good luck

def knock out some state schools that have preference for in-staters. in general, i'd say do more research on schools (and cities for that matter!) that you can imagine living for 4 years.
you should be able to easily shave off 10-15 schools on that list, and save ~$1k in the process. good luck.

just a heads up. i had an interview last week and one thing they were curious about was how many schools i applied to and why i chose theirs. they seemed ok with 7 schools, but i dont know how 44 would have gone over. that being said, good luck with your plans.

20 schools max is my opinion.

An easy way to shave down your schools is to not apply to any public state school that is not in NY/NJ, and to not apply to any schools in Texas.

Pick your schools wisely, you should get some interviews if you do that, and save yourself the financial and emotional toll of a handful almost automatic rejections..

Everyone is definitely right in what they're saying. In terms of more specific advice:

Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health - keep

Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine - keep

Case School of Dental Medicine - out of state ok

Columbia University College of Dental Medicine - drop, not competitive enough

Creighton University - out of state ok

Indiana University - out of state ok

Loma Linda University - keep?
Marquette University -out of state ok
Midwestern University
New York University - keep
Nova Southeastern University - out of state ok

Oregon Health and Science University
Southern Illinois University - drop, very out of state unfriendly
Stony Brook University - keep, in state

The Maurice H. Kornberg School of Dentistry, Temple University - keep

The Ohio State University - out of state ok

Tufts University - keep
University at Buffalo - keep, in state

University of Alabama at Birmingham - drop, not out of state friendly

University of Colorado - drop, not out of state friendly

University of Connecticut -out of state ok

University of Detroit Mercy -out of state ok

University of Florida - not very out of state friendly
University of Illinois at Chicago - I think prefers in state, may want to drop
University of Iowa
University of Kentucky
University of Louisville
University of Maryland
University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey - keep

University of Michigan
University of Minnesota
University of Missouri - Kansas City
University of Nebraska
University of Nevada, Las Vegas - keep
University of Pennsylvania - drop, not competitive enough
University of Pittsburgh - keep
University of Southern California - keep
University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston - drop, not out of state friendly

University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry (UOP) - keep

University of Washington - drop, not non-WICHE friendly
Virginia Commonwealth University
West Virginia University
Western University of Health Sciences - keep

So that's my advice. Take it with a grain of salt, if anyone would like to make more recommendations or thinks I've made a bad recommendation on a certain school, feel free to correct me.

And well..

keep = keep
drop = drop
out of state ok = school takes reasonable amount of out of state applicants, but I didn't check/don't know how competitive they are
and the ones that are blank, I either couldn't decide or got sick of looking through the ADEA book.

At the very least, I've helped you save more than $600. I'll send you my paypal info. 😉
