Originally, I signed up to take physics at UCLA this summer. I enrolled myself in the courses, and I had to pay the tuition before the deadline in order to confirm my enrollment. Keep in mind that I already graduated from undergrad, which is NOT UCLA.

However, I was able to take physics at a cheaper cal state, so I cancelled (dropped) my enrollment at UCLA (never paid for those physics courses at UCLA) around 2 months before the actual start of those UCLA physics courses.

In short, I never paid UCLA any money for any courses, and I was never officially enrolled in any courses at UCLA. Do I still have to include UCLA in the list of colleges I attended?

EDIT: In case there's any confusion. This ISN'T a case where I've paid for UCLA courses and dropped them (with a partial/full refund) AFTER the courses actually started. Because I never paid them any money, I was never officially enrolled in any of their courses! I temporarily signed up for those courses in order to hold my place in them (in case I couldn't take them at a cheaper place), but because I never paid them any money, I was never enrolled in any courses.

Reading this gave me a headache, but, no, you do not have to list a college at which you did not take any courses.

thanks for your response, and i apologize for your headache!

but the UCLA classes just started 2-3 days ago, and when i visited the course enrollment website (i had to start an account to sign up for courses to begin with), it shows a D (for dropped) status for me at those courses. i am just surprised to see that there's still a record of me. i never officially enrolled in their classes, so shouldn't they just erase me from their system?

i dont want people to confuse it as "i dropped the course and got a refund' AFTER the first day of classes, because that's totally not the case

Oh, well, in that case, call the registrar and clarify.

thanks LizzyM and doctor strange. i just emailed the summer enrollment office to confirm everything.

ucla required me to pay a non-refundable $150 to even have the ability to access the summer enrollment page and sign up for classes. as such, i had to start an account and was given a school ID. i really hope that that doesn't mean i attended the school/enrolled in classes.

I think your good man. If you saw a "W" for withdrew then you would have to report it. The "dropped" is likely just for record-keeping purposes.

If you are considered a drop at UCLA, you could just explain it in your appsince you do have physics at another place. It's more work but not the end of the world.

Sent from my phone.

If they have a transcript on you and you don't submit it, the consequences could be profound. Enrolling and dropping is no big deal but failing to report could hurt.

thanks LizzyM.

but i never officially "enrolled" in anything because no payment was made. i signed up for those courses in order to hold my place, and i had to pay the fee by a certain deadline in order to actually enroll. of course, i dropped the courses and never paid any tuition weeks before the start of classes.

I'm going to tell you again.... be sure they don't have a transcript for you. If they do, there will be hell to pay if you fail to submit that transcript. There will be no consequences if you do submit a transcript that shows you dropped.

This has nothing to do with whether or not you owed and/or paid tuition.

i see. but dropped =/= withdrawal!

i dont want med schools to see dropped and then think it is a withdrawal (W).

the amcas instructions tell us to report all colleges in which we enrolled in at least one course. so i hope that in my case, i never enrolled in anything

but i will ask them about the transcript thing.

I guess it's better to be safe than sorry. I don't know how they could see you went to a school if you didn't list it but don't test it.

but the thing is i NEVER went to UCLA or enrolled in anything.

i needed to take physics 2, and there are 3-5 universities near me that potentially offer the course during the summer. so i contacted all of the schools and started an account/got an ID from all of them. this way, if one university doesnt work out, i can immediately enroll at another university and make sure i successfully take the course.

now, do i have to potentially contact all those schools and make sure i dont have anything on record?

Well if you never even tried to enroll then no you didn't attend so you don't have to list it. What I meant when I said to be safe was to check all schools to see if you have a transcript (which you really shouldn't). I still don't see how any schools could go searching to see if you have been anywhere else but who knows.

gotcha.

i guess this is lesson for any one still in college: if possible, take all your important pre-reqs at your home institute, and limit the # of colleges you take classes at. the less you have to worry about when it comes to app time, the better.
