Hi I am dreamer11.

I am a Sophomore in High School with big dreams of one day becoming a Surgeon. Be my friend so we can chat and help each other in this long, wonderful, crazy journey.

Please introduce your self too! 🙂

Good Luck to everyone! :xf:

Hello, I have not been a member for too long myself. I am a high school senior about to move into the second semester of his final year in high school; so far it looks like I will receive my diploma with a 4.0 average, college credits already under my belt, and several hours of community service. I have already been accepted to every pre-medical program I have applied to, I understand this is not the greatest acheivement (especially when you did not apply to any extremely competitive schools), and I am pretty sure I have decided which one to attend. I am thinking of majoring in microbiology because I have noticed that it seems to fit very well with my selected school's pre-med curriculum and I am pretty interested in the field. I am also considering minoring in Spanish because I am very interested in practicing in underserved rural areas (no one could figure that out by my username, lol) in both the U.S. and parts of Latin America (I just copied and pasted from a previous thread where I introduced myself).

I am a junior in college and will have 82 credits in a couple of weeks. I was originally premed, looking into surgery as well, but lost focus and went off the path of medicine for a bit. Came back to it, found out about podiatry and haven't looked back since.

This is a great place to implore about careers in medicine. I joined when I was a senior in high school and it really helped me out when I started college. I gota say dreamer11, you got a long way to go. Just remember to have fun; you're still in high school, wait until college to take it to the next level. Keep your interest though. If you really want to pursue medicine, you have to know its a long road ahead of you. Make sure you shadow and get plenty of clinical experience. It may seem like an amazing career from the outside, but it is a lot of work and dedication to truly get thru it, especially for a surgeon. Also, stop making so many threads lol. Use the search bar, or ask all your questions in one thread.

Espanol es maravilla.

Greetings!

I'm a freshman in college, and I'm finishing up my first semester. I'd like to go to medical school, but I'm keeping an open mind to exploring different careers.

Enjoy high school, keep your grades up, take the PSAT seriously, and start looking at colleges. The times start roaring by come junior year, and before you know it, you'll be heading to college! If you can or would like to, try volunteering a bit at the hospital or shadowing a doctor for a day. My school had a compulsory career shadowing week at the beginning of high school, and getting to see doctors, veterinarians, and other professionals at work gave me some motivation to retain information in preparation for college.

Welcome to hSDN!

Thank you! I have been thinking about volunteering at the hospital! I think I will this summer! I am excited! What are some things that you can do in volunteering in your hospital? Thanks again!

When I volunteered the summer before 10th grade in high school, the volunteer coordinator assigned me to the outpatient surgery holding room. There, I would check and see if the bedside drawers were stocked with cannulae, needles, and other needed materials, offer patients warm blankets if they wanted some, answer phone calls and relay messages (particularly to the nursing staff,) and spike tons of lactated ringer's bags so that whenever one was needed before a patient went to surgery, the staff could just grab one off of my cart without having to do it themselves or wait on one to be ready.

Even though the volunteer coordinator had issues communicating the dates when she would be out of town (and thus when no volunteering could take place,) it was a good experience; I felt like the staff really appreciated having me there.

Welcome. My name is Jake. I am a junior in high school. Applying in 11 months. I have yet to take the SAT. I will probably be going to UVM for undergrad. My major will likely be neuroscience. I have been a member of SDN for about half a year methinks. I want to go to either UVM med school, mayo, or somewhere warm.

Hi! I am a junior in high school, and am going to be taking the SAT's this year. I'm Canadian, but I have always wanted to end up in the US (as most of my family resides there)....

The previous summer I volunteered at a hospital, this summer I volunteered at a nursing home, and the coming summer I'm volunteering at the same hospital. 🙂 I absolutely loved volunteering at the hospital, and can't wait to do it again!
