Alpha and beta thalassemia and Malarial resistance?

Do both alpha and beta thalassemia minors offer resistance to falciparum malaria? Or just alpha?

all hereditary anemias give RELATIVE resistance to p. falciparum ( G6PD , a and b thalassemias , sickle cell , probably spherocytosis ) Also some african americans lack the Duffy antigen on their RBC's --> resistance to p.vivax/ovale
